Configuring drawing tablet

Dear All, I have recently bought a drawing tablet, which does not come with any Linux device driver. It works perfectly even without any device driver. However, I would like to associate a script to each of the tablet buttons. I guess that whenever a button is pressed, a signal of such an occurrence can be captured by Fedora, but I do not know how. restoring the screen/apps/menus on powering back up

Hi. Wondering if there's a solution/process to being able to restore a laptop to the state it had prior to powering down. I run Gnome. Say I have multiple workspaces. Each workspace has a number of "term" windows, and some gedit processes. The Gedit processes might be running/editing different files. Is there a way to power down, and power back up, and to be able to have the same workspace/layout with all the terms/apps running as before? Thanks

Enabling TPM emulation for Qemu Win10 guests

If you're running a qemu VM with a Windows 10 guest (in F34) and you successfully enabled TPM emulation, I'd like to compare notes with you. I used virt-manager to enable TPM 2.0, both TIS and CRB types: <tpm model="tpm-tis"> <backend type="emulator" version="2.0"/> <alias name="tpm0"/> </tpm> and <tpm model="tpm-crb"> <backend type="emulator" version="2.0"/> <alias name="tpm0"/> </tpm> My fully activated/licensed Windows 10 VM (21H1) refuses to recognize TPM. "Security Processor Troubleshooting" reports: "Your device does not support this feature." I've read multiple reports that this should work, so I must be missing something. Looking at a working qemu configuration in /etc/libvirt/qemu is the only thing I can think of.

Failure in gsetting up a UEFI USB Flash with Fedora 33??

I've found 6 web sites so far that had instructions on setting up a UEFI USB flash to boot, but all have failed. Some actually create a UEFI Flash that my test usb is seen as being a UEFI flash, but the boot fails? The last one I fully documented the steps from page, but the resulting flash doesn't even show up as an UEFI Flash. Probable due to the failure of the grub2-install option?? grub2-install: error: this utility cannot be used for EFI platforms because it does not support UEFI Secure Boot. So, it seems it worked on some system before, but fails with Fedora 33 at least?? Seems they gave up on trying to make a UEFI boot, and have created a live-cd boot of a distro to get around issue. Seems going from boot loaders link syslinux, grub4dos, and regular grub2 with a 10M kernel and 30M ramdisk. With Fedora, it would require the 2G live CD image, and then the downloading of a number of packages that are not included on the live-cd. So, 40M to 2000+M and a bunch of steps. Does anyone know of a process to make a UEFI USB Boot that actual works using Fedora?? Very Frustrated...

Problem reporting / Mate-Screensaver crash / Packagekit crach.

To all, When I activate the screesaver I get the message : Mate-Screensaver quit unexpectedly : Application crash, Packagekit idem : Application crash . When this happens ( after a delay of 5 minutes ) I get a blue screen and have to turn off the system by force , so hardware OFF. When I want to do a Problem Reporting I get the message : https://retrace.fedoraproject.org does not excist (server error 404) . Question : What now ? Regards , Ger van Dijck.

networked sound via pipewire

Is this actually possible right now? Pipewire is under rapid development which means the documentation out there on it rapidly becomes dated, so I've been poking around for the past hour but haven't found anything that would help me do what I want. What I want to do is have some of my virtual machines send their output over the network to my desktop. Not having audio from the VMs is limiting what I can do with them. Can this be done with pipewire as it stands now? Is it documented anywhere? Thanks, --Greg

Using locate github

I have a F32 system I am using with github. Yes, I know updating is overdue.... Github has switched to person access tokens since the last time I used it. I created my https PAT but can't seem to get the git command to use it. It just uses my GIt ID and password which now gets rejected. Any recommendation (other than updating to F34!) to get my "git push origin" command to work? It seems that there is a github-cli in beta, but does not seem to be an option here. thanks

So the error message is "initramfs unpacking failed: no cpio magic". I I guess you will need to repack your initramfs to be compatible with the Fedora kernel. Are you aware that there are various tools included with Fedora to help you create live boot images?

cups is the worst software....

Bonjour, I have several computers at home and one with an usr-printer attached. I struggled sometimes to configure cups on other computers to use this printer. Now I upgraded to f34, and the configuration no longer works: "printer is misconfigured or no longer exists" is the answer if I send a test page.... After deleting the printer, I try to use the discovery tool in the administration page of cups (localhost:631) and it find the printer attached to my main computer but at the end of the configuration, when I try to print a test page, the answer is the same: "printer is misconfigured or no longer exists" This tool also finds old printers I configured many years ago and which (really) non longer exist... What to do? Hi all. Where do I find a Fedora distro with EFI ? In here cos heard & read that Fedora supports EFI boot. I set wrongfully up my Macbook 2,1 OSX 10.6.8 (2007) x86-64 with Debian 32bit. Because 32bit gets outdated and bnasically is wrong for the computer, I wanted 64bit. But of some reason the computer only opens distros with EFI, like Bionic Pupp x86-64. Fedora version I found only shows up a "Windows" cd image, no "EFI" cd image on the (right) side of it. Heard that EFI is a boot installer, but unpopular because it comes (for free, but copyrighted(?)) from Microsoft(, & probably can't be changed). Thus most installers in the end (e.g Refracta, in Devuan) claim the need of Grub, where to place Grub. Destroying all the installation work done. This, due to my low knowledge, has made my computer unusable from the hard disk, only from RAM using a live Bionicpup x86-64 dvd. A friend said he was able to UEFI install Fedora. Checked online, found article that claimed Fedora as one distro supporting EFI in installing. But my computer can only open a distro with EFI image; no EFI gives only a blinking ? sign or a black irresponsive screen with: 1. 2. Boot option I write this from my work computer. The EX Mac /Linux machine is needed 'only' for private; entertainment, friendly online contact, and writing.

OT: How to load kernels in EFI setup.

Have a project that I've maintained since 2004. Have a simple process to add it to the regular grub boot list using the 40_custom with the following lines. menuentry G4L { linux /bz5x13.14 root=/dev/ram0 initrd /ramdisk.lzma } Just copy the kernel and ramdisk.lzma to /boot and it becomes an option in the grub menu. Just had a use that got 140 new Dell machines, and they seem to no longer support any bios boot?? So, EFI is the only option. Have the EFI kernel options set, but haven't found info on how to make an efi boot. I've looked, but I've not seen anything. Did find one page that talks about just copying kernel files to the efi direct with a minor rename and including System.map file, but doesn't say anything about the filesystem? Anyone know of a web page. Currently, the user is pulling drive out, and connecting it to an older machine to make images. Thanks.

Fedora distro with EFI cd image

Hi all. Where do I find a live Fedora x86-64 iso image with EFI 'cd image' in it ? (My 2007 ex-Mac computer now only runs Puppy x86-64 live dvd in RAM.) My Macbook 64b computer won't open any iso without a cd image named EFI. Alt key on startup will show a 'Window cd', on the right side I need an 'EFI cd', too. Read that Fedora supports EFI. So I'm here, asking for your help &/or a link to ISO. BR, Gunnar Gervin.

NFS mount

I'm trying to setup an NFS mount to an older NAS device. The client is Fedora 34, the NAS is a Buffalo Linkstation. I have access to the NAS via SSH and I can successfully mount it using CIFS and SSHFS. Of course, CIFS loses some file attributes and SSHFS seems slow and doesn't see the filesystem usage properly. So I'd prefer NFS but it keeps failing. I've even tried with my firewall disabled but no luck. The NAS only works with NFS v2. It's NFS is a client-side application as there is no NFS built into its kernel. But it is nothing new; the app has been running successfully for many folks for years. I don't understand why the mount proceeds to use V1 for prog 100005 (mount) without any indication of a problem with the V2 attempt for NFS. Bonjour, Since I upgraded to f34, rkhunter is warning me with this file: Warning: Hidden file found: /usr/share/man/fr/man1/..1.gz: symbolic link to builtins.1.gz Asking rpm -qf /usr/share/man/fr/man1/..1.gz, it returns that this file belongs to the man-pages-fr package. rkhunter --propupd does not change anything, every day rkhunter sends me a warning mail... Which of these two must be believed: rkhunter or rpm -qf? Hi! This is a bit borderline but since I guess everybody is using a PC here (or a MAC...) you probably have a keyboard too... I recently (less than a year) got a mechanical keyboard (Logitech G512 - liked the 512 number...) and it's been complicated. I initially offered one to my wife, she loved it and "forced" me to get one too. I had to wash it dismantling the keys, putting them in soap and water, drying them, etc. I also bought a small hover to suck the potential dust creating problems (or ... something else). After less than a year both keyboards have been back under warranty, one because of the RGB lights breaking on some keys, the other one because of keys not working after a few hours of work (that's mine). When having problems (like the space bar, C key, arrows, etc stop working) I eventually took other keyboards I already have, and then I really missed the 'typing quality' of the mechanical one. I also appreciate that the Logitech keyboard do have Free Software projects allowing you to control each key and set up the lighting the way you want. You can even do (keyboard) games with those. I however suffered all those (un)typing issues and am disappointed by the overall quality. 2 keyboards, 2 went back under warranty (1 replaced, 1... waiting for it). So let's say I am hooked with the technology but... Do you guys know of any keyboard with similar typing quality but with durability and eventually free software driving the RGB lighting? I can probably live without the RGB stuff as well ;-) Oh .. I don't play games, just spend the whole day (and night?) behind (in front of?) my PC. Thank you. Fred ps: numeric pad is a must

installing Fedora: says empty disk is almost full

Hello. I'm a potential new user, but I'm having trouble with the install. I have Windows and Leap on one of the new on-board drives, and I have added /dev/sda, a new Samsung 465 GiB ssd (ordinary type) to the system. I formatted it to ext4 using GParted, and it's empty except for 8.38 GiB at the beginning that GParted must have added. When I try to add theFedora system to this, it says there is only 1.2 GiB available. I went back and ran GParted on it again, but it still comes up the same way. What am I doing wrong? Or is the drive defective? GParted doesn't complain about it. Thans for your assistance--doug

Fedora 34/KDE/Plasma desktop wallpaper showing through application windows ?

Hi. Fedora 34 / KDE / Plasma. Everything works great except that I can see the Fedora 34 desktop wallpaper patterns in my application windows. The desktop wallpaper is "bleeding through", like the application windows are transparent. How do I fix this ? Is it an effect in Settings ? Weird keyboard problem

Hi! I'm using a Logitech G512 (wired) keyboard. Usually works perfectly in the morning and little by little I get stuck with 'some' keys. I say some because it's not regular. I press them and they don't seem to work.. then work "if I press harder" ... or later? When using the native laptop keyboard, or another BT Logitech K480 keyboard the problem is not there. I am really hesitating to bring it back as I've noticed when in the browser or some applications highlighting the blinking character cursor, that it actually stops blinking at times, and then suddenly either gets 3 keys typed in a row, or just a 'huge' time delay between the moment I typed that key and the moment it appears. Are there any reliable ways to troubleshoot and pinpoint where the issue could be coming from? Thank you. Fred
