audio problem
by Eyal Lebedinsky
I am on f34 5.15.16-100.fc34.x86_64
This problem started recently (a few weeks, maybe a little longer?).
Initially I noticed audio hiccups when playing mythtv recordings. At times there was also video noise
but not always.
I then found that playing audio from a network stream (with vlc) also had hiccups. The sound would
stop and start, sometime even repeat a fraction of a second.
I now played a track from a local disk and the same issues were heard.
There are no messages to indicate a problem. I then used 'mplayer' which has more console messages
and I now can see an issue:

Audio device: Intel Corporation Cannon Lake PCH cAVS (rev 10)
What can I do now to diagnose the problem?
One more data point: for a long time (many months) I had a problem where the system locks up hard
needing a cold restart. There were no hiccups otherwise. It always had mythtv playing or YouTube.
When locked the sound of the last second would loop continuously until the reset. The video is frozen then.
Maybe related? This is a long running problem (happens once every few months) but the audio stutter
is a recent, new issue.

LibreOffice7.3 crashing?
by Michael D. Setzer II
Have the Fedora version of LibreOffice working just fine.
Also, have the LibreOffice 7.2.5 working just fine.
Downloaded the 7.3 and and it seemed to install fine,
but attempts to use it result in crash??
Restart has it upload, and it successfully submits the
crash report, but goes in safe mode, but still crashes?
Doesn't seem to show me any info on what the crash is?
I've been trying to bring up calc, so perhaps other parts
work? This is on fully updated Fedora 34.
Uninstalled the 7.3, and have Fedora version and 7.2.5
working again. Did try uninstalling 7.2.5 and installing
7.3, but it did same thing.
Perhaps the report will tell them something. Just
wondering if others might either have same issue, or
others have it work?
Thanks.

Kinda OT: Email clients and Email Management
by fedora@cwm030.com
Hi Ya'll,
I know that there are, to me, seems like A LOT of email clients for the
linux world.
And It's getting harder and harder for me to hop around and try new
email clients out when they come out being a..........GET READY TO
CRINGE..... POP3 user.
Last week I tried TDE ( Trinity Desktop ) on Debian. and decided to give
KMAIL a try... Big mistake... Importing my email into KMAIL caused the
emails names to be changed from numbers ( because I used Claws before)
to this weird string of letters and numbers. Therefore, I could not
import my email back to CLAWS since I gave up and returned to Fedora and
Gnome 3.
I plan on staying with Fedora and Gnome 3.
I thought about making the change to IMAP, but old habits die hard. I
find myself when I set up or try a new email client, I wind up setting
it up as POP3...
So I am just curious if there is any POP users still out there
And what are some pros and cons switching to IMAP?
And what program do you use on Fedora for your email?
Thanks,
Chris

VM Setup
by Robert McBroom
Xeon 8 core machine with 16G. Fedora 35 server installed. Have CentOS8
installed in qemu/kvm virtual machine. What would be the appropriate
configuration of processor access and memory to get reasonable response
from the vm? With 4 processors and 2G response is atrocious.

Evolution: Starting Over
by c. marlow
Hi,
I am trying to erase everything in Evolution and start it over as if I
had just installed Fedora and Evolution
I asked on Reddit and I got this far:
I was able to do:
rm -rf ~/.config/evolution
rm -rf ~/.local/share/evolution
rm -rf ~/.cache/evolution
But when I get to:
dconf reset /org/gnome/evolution/
is where the trouble starts...
I can't get this command to work:
[chris@fedora ~]$ sudo dconf -f reset /org/gnome/evolution/
[sudo] password for chris:
error: unknown command -f
Usage:
dconf COMMAND [ARGS...]
Commands:
help Show this information
read Read the value of a key
list List the contents of a dir
write Change the value of a key
reset Reset the value of a key or dir
compile Compile a binary database from keyfiles
update Update the system databases
watch Watch a path for changes
dump Dump an entire subpath to stdout
load Populate a subpath from stdin
Use 'dconf help COMMAND' to get detailed help.
[chris@fedora ~]$ sudo dconf reset /org/gnome/evolution/ -f
error: -f must be given to (recursively) reset entire directories
Usage:
dconf reset [-f] PATH
Reset a key or dir. -f is required for dirs.
Arguments:
PATH Either a KEY or DIR
KEY A key path (starting, but not ending with '/')
DIR A directory path (starting and ending with '/')
[chris@fedora ~]$
Any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks,
Chris

Boot hang after grub menu
by C Linus Hicks
I hit an issue that seems very strange, hoping for some help. I upgraded one of my displays a couple
of weeks ago and decided I needed to upgrade the video card too. Just came in yesterday, an ASUS
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650. This isn't a gaming rig, just text windows, browsers, and VirtualBox
machines. The old card is an Nvidia GT 1030. With the 1030 installed, the system boots normally.
When I install the 1650, I get the motherboard splash screen then the grub boot menu on the display.
After timeout or making a selection, the screen clears, the USB keyboard turns off, then nothing.
The display stays active - it doesn't go to sleep. Probably the wrong idea, but I also tried booting
the F35 live DVD thinking it might have something to do with the video driver. But I believe the
boot sequence continues for some time using VGA mode, so the driver shouldn't come into play at that
point in the boot process.
Booting with the 1030, the USB keyboard turns off after a selection is made from the grub menu, but
it comes back on in about a second. I saw one hint regarding the 1650 related to secure boot, since
disabled to no avail. I'm not having much luck finding postings describing the same problem, so I'm
pretty much stuck. It's an ASUS motherboard and an ASUS video card so perhaps I need to open the
issue with them.
Thanks for any help.

icon theme cleanup?
by Tom Horsley
dnf update just took about 20 minutes at 100% cpu to get past
the cleanup step in breeze-icon-theme, made it past a few more
things rapidly, now is using 100% cpu in cleanup of
oxygen-icon-theme.
What on earth is it doing? I guess my system will be really really clean
if it ever gets done :-).

Why vmware? Fedora comes with a virtualization system already. If you
want really simple, you can try using Gnome Boxes.
