Apache and umask for document root
by Alex
Hi,
I've set up a virtual host for a joomla website and having some
permissions problems. I've seen numerous configurations online about
how to set umask for the apache user, but none have worked, including
creating a systemd file
(/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service) with the
following:
[Unit]
Description=The Apache HTTP Server
After=network.target remote-fs.target nss-lookup.target
[Service]
Type=notify
Environment=LANG=C
Umask=0006
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -DFOREGROUND
ExecReload=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k graceful
# Send SIGWINCH for graceful stop
KillSignal=SIGWINCH
KillMode=mixed
PrivateTmp=true
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
The problem is that the files are owned by the joomla user, but also
need to have access (both read and write) to be able to modify some
files within the document root.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set umask for the apache user?
I'm also interested in recommended permissions settings for the joomla
document root.
Thanks,
Alex

Nvidia refresh rate.
by GianPiero Puccioni
Hi,
I want to decrease the refrash rate of the video to use less battery but I am
having difficulties...
I have F35 with KDE on a Dell G15 with Nvidia GA107M [GeForce RTX 3050 Ti
Mobile], the RPMFusion drivers and a 1920x1080 resolution (native).
In the "system settings-display" There is the possibility to change refresh from
120Hz to 60Hz but it doesn't stick; I change it and "apply" but if I change
screen and go back to "display" it's again at 120Hz, I tried "nvidia-settings"
but it has only info, not settings.
The program "xrandr" reports
1920x1080 120.00*+ 59.97 59.96 59.93
Is this the problem 59.97 not 60?
Any suggestions?

fully updated F36 Dell XPS 13 no longer comes back from hibernate
(post Thursday updates)
by Ranjan Maitra
Dear friends,
I have a fully updated F36 Dell XPS 13 that has been updated nightly (and upgraded when appropriate) using dnf on a cron job for the past few years. Sadly, after last Thursday's updates, the machine goes down fine (with the usual systemctl hibernate), but does not come back up. I am a little confused what changed last Thursday, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how I may diagnose and fix this problem.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Ranjan

Wifi Device Last Used Message From Network Manager - What Does the
Message Mean?
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
When I boot into Linux and look at the config for my wifi device
and it says the device was "Last used 30 minutes Ago", what exactly does
that message mean? Does it mean what is says, or does it mean that was
the last time the device was attempted to be activated? I'm asking this
because I have had that message on a device that Linux could not use.

Steve

Fedora 35 crashes with all updates applied. How do I submit a bug
report re. crashing in Gnome but probably Kernel bug.
by Andrew Wood
Hello,
I have Fedora set up with Fedora 35 (workstation edition) using Gnome 41.6.
I notice a (annoying!) bug which occurs when I try and cut and paste
from one window to another. What seems to happen is that the Gnome
session closes and it dumps me into terminal mode. If I type Ctrl-C then
Gnome restarts and a new user session is presented. Prior to my most
recent update, this bug seemed even worse in its frequency and scope.
But still, I am now continuing to potentially losing work (and basic
functionality).
This might be a Kernel error using shared memory between threads or
processes but I really don't know. It's a guess. Anyhow, what do I need
to do, to file a bug and what memory or process dumps/logs/stack traces
are needed to help the developers. ie what do I type where!
Thank-you.

Issue with split DNS and systemd-resolved
by Peter Boy
After Upgrading to Fedora 35 split DNS resolution with systemd-resolved doesn't work anymore.
My Fedora server managed a libvirt virtual network for internal communicatin between VMs. Systemd doesn't work nicely with libvirt, among others does libvirt manage virtual networks directly and doesn't involve NetworkManager. So I had to adjust systemd-resolved using resolvectl.
I guess I miss something but can't find useful information so far.
My configuration in detail:
My interfaces
> - - - - - - - - - - - <
$ip a
2: enp0s31f6: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP group default qlen 1000
link/ether 90:1b:0e:fc:ee:d2 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 78.46....
inet6 2a01:4f8:....
15: virbr0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 8000 ...
inet 192.168....
17: virbr1: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 8000 q....
inet 192.168.100..... virbr1
> - - - - - - - - - - - <
I configured DNS für each virtual network and if I address the corresponding DNS servers directly ("dig @192.168.122.1 myhost.example.com") the DNS resolution works correctly.
After boot I get:
> - - - - - - - - - - - <
[~]# resolvectl status
Global
Protocols: LLMNR=resolve -mDNS -DNSOverTLS DNSSEC=no/unsupported
resolv.conf mode: stub

That is as expected.
Until before the update I had to:
> - - - - - - - - - - - <
resolvectl domain virbr0 ~resdigita.lan
resolvectl dns virbr0 192.168.122.1
resolvectl default-route virbr0 false
resolvectl domain virbr1 ~libreccm.lan
resolvectl dns virbr1 192.168.100.1
resolvectl default-route virbr1 false
> - - - - - - - - - - - <
and it worked. But now that results in:
> - - - - - - - - - - - <
[~]# resolvectl status

Fedora 36 KDE Wierdness
by Robert McBroom
Running Fedora 36 with the KDE desktop. Whenever I leave the system it
switches to some mode with a blank screen that will only return with
ctl-alt-delete after a long wait period. No screensaver is set. The
power settings are blank. Checked all the entries I know of to have it
run until manually handled. What do I need to set to have the session
stay with me?
