cupsd spamming the journal

SATA optical drives

I'm currently running FC5, will probably upgrade to F7 in a couple of months. Unfortunately my CD/DVD rewriter appears to have died, before it's even seen a dual layer disk :'( SATA hard drives run without problems for me, but now that SATA optical drives are starting to appear in the shops, would it be OK to buy one of these and get rid of another wide ribbon cable? Is anybody already running them with Fedora? Thanks for any advice/experiences. Dave F

Gnome Nautilus and no thumbnails from connected Android storage

Hi guys. Despite having "Show Thumbnails => All files" in my Nautilus, I do not get thumbnails on my Android phone when connected via USB. That should work, in F34, right? many thanks, L.

Cockpit as root

I am not able to login to cockpit, localhost:9090, as root. I can login as a normal user, but that isn't acceptable. Why would I even need cockpit as a normal user? I have a fully updated Fedora instance. It may be related somehow to plasma as at the top of the login dialog I see "Fedora Linux KDE Plasma". I suppose there is a configuration option to allow root logins. Note that sudo is not an option I am interested in using. Emmett

How do I do a group reinstall of Xfce?

Hi All, I have both MATE and Xfce installed. If I boot into MATE, such that Xfce is not running, or not start a GUI at all, how do I do a group reinstall of Xfce? F37 broke netupstools

After updating F37 nut is unhappy, spewing this every couple of seconds: Nov 21 06:48:28 monster.email-scan.com nut-server[1735]: Can't connect to UPS [nutdev1] (usbhid-ups-nutdev1): No such file or directory Interestingly enough, the XFCE desktop's panel has a widget that shows the UPS and its charged status. Today's project is to figure out what's broken, does anyone happen to know what's up with this, and save me some time?

kvm vs firefox issue?

I am running up-to-date f36. Recently I had kvm "virsh restore" take a long time. Normally it takes less than 10s but now it took 10-15m!. Then it took 30m (qemu-system-x86_64 running 100% CPU all the time) and I started looking around. I noticed that khugepaged is also running 100% CPU. Thinking that there may be a memory issue, on a whim, I closed firefox. KVM came up immediately. The machine has enough memory (32GB) and kvm was allocated 8GB. Right now I again resumed the vm, and after 2m I closed firefox and again kvm responded instantly. This started only recently (kernel 6.0.18 or 6.1, or another update?)
