WPA3 on a raspberry pi 4.
by Sharpened Blade
With f37 supporting raspberry pi 4's, I installed it onto my pi. It was all going fine until yesterday, when I tried to switch my wifi to WPA3. The wifi stopped working, but returning my wifi to WPA2/WPA3 (mixed mode) allowed me to reconnect. I am pretty sure its not the wifi because this happens to different RPi4s, but works on all my other devices. My laptop running Fedora also connects properly. I did set protected management frames to required, but that is the only option for WPA3. I saw https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/3619, it might be relevant. Is the only option to use WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode, and does `iwd` work for WPA3? Also, does it work for anyone else in WPA3 only mode?

Weird multiple display issue
by Thomas Cameron
Howdy -
I have a multi monitor machine. The displays are set up like this:
+ + +
+
So I have three large monitors and a smaller tablet below the far right
monitor.
The weird thing is, it seems like the desktop THINKS my screen looks
like this:
+ + +
+ + +
So what happens is, when I do something like use a background image
across multiple monitors, it stretches it so that half the image shows
up on my top three monitors, and about a third of the bottom of the
image shows up on my small monitor down to the right.
Also, and this is the real problem, when I choose to rearrange my
desktop icons, it distributes them across the left side of my left
monitor and down across the nonexistent left bottom screen it seems to
think is there. So my desktop icons disappear. About half of them appear
to be placed under the leftmost monitor, but there's no monitor under
that top monitor.
I've posted pix of what my desktop looks like, and what I see when I
capture a screenshot. https://imgur.com/a/gUBsgML
In the screenshot, I have Chrome maximized on all four physical screens.
As you can see from the screenshot, there is empty virtual desktop space
below the left and center physical screens. You can see that my desktop
icons are in that empty space. But I can't see them on the physical screens.
Anyone know how to fix this so that my desktop icons don't disappear off
the bottom of my screen?
Thanks!

Labling a live usb stick
by Geoffrey Leach
I'm using mediawriter to create a USB boot stick. Works fine.
I would like to label the USB stick.
AFAIK mediawriter does not have that option. gparted does not have that
ability either.
It appears that livecd-tools does, but it appears that it requires a
kickstart file.
Any suggestions for a simple solution? thanks.

Are Meta/Facebook servers using Fedora Linux?
by Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo En Ming
Subject: Are Meta/Facebook servers using Fedora Linux?
Good day from Singapore,
I have just come across this article.
Article: Fedora's FESCo Rejects The Idea Of "-fno-omit-frame-pointer"
As Default Compiler Flag
Link: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Fedora-Rejects-No-Omit-FP
As a change proposal first initiated by Meta/Facebook developers, they
wanted -fno-omit-frame-pointer and -mno-omit-leaf-frame-pointer to be
added to the default C/C++ compilation flags.
...snipped...
Meta engineers believe that any performance cost is small and worth it
while SUSE engineers previously cited around possible 5~10%
regressions.
From the above quotes, I thought that Meta/Facebook servers are using
Fedora Linux, or at least Linux servers.
Anyone can confirm?

Libreoffice on F36 quirk in auto-correct control window
by Tim
Does anyone else notice this happen in LibreOffice (7.3.7.2) on Fedora
36:
Open the AutoCorrect options (in an AutoCorrect sub-menu in the Tools
menu).
Click on any of the tabs, or use the scroll wheel on the mouse, and the
options window gets wider and wider each time you do that.
Various other interactions with the window cause the same effect, as
well. And you can't grab the edge of the window with the mouse and
resize it smaller again.

Adding memtest 6.01 to Fedora 37 Installation ISO image..
by Michael D. Setzer II
In a test was able to get memtest 6.01 to work from
modified regular boot of image, but trying from UEFI
boot under Virtual Box it doesn't bring up menu, but
brings Shell options.
Process get memtest files from
https://memtest.org/
https://memtest.org/download/v6.01/mt86plus_6.01_64.grub.iso.zip
Use isomaster to extract two memtest files from boot and uefi directories and
create following unique names.
144344 memtest.leg
144384 memtest.uefi
Use isomaster to modify Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-37-1.7.iso
Added two memtest files to /images directory
and modified /boot/grub2/grub.cfg to add
menuentry 'Memtest Legacy' {
echo 'Loading memtest 6.01 for BIOS BOOT SYSTEM'
linux /images/memtest.leg
}
menuentry 'Memtest UEFI' {
echo 'Loading memtest 6.01 for UEFI BOOT SYSTEM'
linux /images/memtest.uefi
}
Saved the image as Fedmem.iso after additions.
Booting as legacy option under VirtualBox the memtest options will both work
fine to bring up memtest. With grub4dos boot, the memtest.leg only works with
a legacy boot, and memtest.uefi only works with UEFI boot.
Tried to boot modified Fedmem.iso, but in UEFI boot mode it brings up a Shell
versus bringing up the menu as the original iso does. Probable dealing with
changes in image, or perhaps the name of iso being different.
I believe at one point memtest was include with boot iso. Know I've occasionally
had machines with memory issues, so generally ran memtest on them if didn't
know memory was good.
Perhaps if memtest programs were added using Fedora build, the efi option
would work.
Just wondering. Have the memtest 6.01 work on both install Fedora 36 and
Fedora 37 machines from grub menu. Have put info on bugzilla report as well.
Thanks. Perhaps someone with more experience with UEFI. Only have two
machines using UEFI boot, and do testing with Virtural Box on images.

F37 Graphic login blocked after upgrade to Kernel 6.1.7-200
by José María Terry Jiménez
Hello
I've just upgraded my F37 this afternoon and after reboot when login in
GUI, it freezes (I can select user, enter password and initiate login)
As Kernel was involved in this upgrade 6.1.6-200 -> 6.1.7-200 I rebooted
(could ssh into the box) and selected 6.1.6, all worked as usual. Just
to be sure, rebooted into 6.1.7 and got the same problem.
This is Gnome (Wayland)
Do anyone saw this? Any ideas (or wait for new Kernel?)
If someone gets in this problem, hope can "solve" booting previous Kernel.
When booted **IN 6.1.6** then did (to prevent need to select 6.1.6 in
every boot):
** DON'T DO THIS IF YOUR RUNNING KERNEL IS 6.1.7, check with ** uname -r
** before remove 6.1.7
dnf remove kernel-core-6.1.7 kernel-devel-6.1.7

Other question:
shouldn't "rpmconf -a" fixes all left over for *.rpm* in *all* directories ?
after an update via "dnf update" the last days I saw there was a file *.rpmsave (save ?) created under /var/lib/unbound/
sudo rpmconf -a didn't fix it, but an "dnf reinstall unbound-libs-1.17.1-1.fc37.x86_64" today did it ...

can't print from appimages
by Tim
Does anyone know why I can't print from appimages (e.g. MuseScore)?
The printers are listed, and you can go through all the normal motions
to print to one of them, but nothing happens. The printer requester
disappears, as you'd expect when printing commences, but nothing
prints. There's appearing or stuck in the queue. It just disappears
into a black hole.
It can print to a PDF file, that works. Although it's a seriously
annoying work around, having to save a file any time you want to print,
then open the file in a PDF viewer and print from that.
Other programs print properly.
If I run the app from the command line I get a gazillion and one lines
like this appearing in the terminal when I try to print, though I have
no idea if they're fatal errors or just something it doesn't actually
need to do:
QPainter::begin(): Returned false
