Problems with New kernel 6.2.7

Total strangeness with the new kernel series on fedora 37. My update was
from 6.1.14 to the 6.2.7, missing several editions. With the new kernel
the display was only 1024x768 on the 27" monitor. Even though x11 is
selected in the display-manager the system comes up in wayland. Settings
says that the monitor does not support any thing but the 1024x768
resolution. Patently untrue. Reverted to the 6.1.14 kernel.
Suspect that there is not a driver IN RPMFUSION for the geforce gt610 ON
THE 6.2.7 and getting thrown back to VGA, but why wayland?
Is this the situation?

firefox needs-restarting

firefox got updated today, and after restarting it, dnf
needs-restarting says it needs to be restarted. To be on the safe
side, I did restart it once again, but to no avail.
Might there be a reason for dnf needs-restarting's insistence?
[Fedora 36, fully upgraded though not running the latest kernel.]

curious -- looking for thoughts/opinions

Hi.
Looking at getting another laptop.
Any thoughts on completely transferring as well as updating the data
on the current drive to the new laptop.
Assume I might be dealing with a diff flavor of linux. I'm not sure
what the new laptop will have.
I don't want bleeding edge fedora.. (unless I change my mind).
I don't want RHEL/centos -- I'd like to be newer.
So, give me your thoughts as well as best practice that you use for
this kind of process...

wpa_supplicant behaving badly

xscreensaver is controlled by xscreensaver-command. If
xscreensaver-command is called with the argument -deactivate
it behaves as if a key was pressed.
On my laptop running F37 that is happening every minute or so, so no
screensaver. (F36 did not have the problem)
Replacing that command with a script that runs pstree shows
|-wpa_supplicant,952 -c
/etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf -u -s
`-xscreensaver-co,1119 /usr/bin/xscreensaver-command -deactivate
`-pstree,1119 -agl
AFAIK there is no reason why wpa_supplicant should want to disable
xscreensaver. I have two wifi networks, one local (not unusual) ans
starlink.
Suggestions for additional investigation would be appreciated.

OT: is it possible to have one cron job follow GMT/UTC?

Dear friends,
I have a bunch of entries in my crontab, all doing different things at different times. These times are picked up by the computer clock.
However, one particular task (downloading weather maps) would benefit if it was set to download using a clock that does not spring forward and fall back. This is because these maps appear to be released according to GMT/UTC and so setting the time according to the local clock does not quite work. (I am aware that I could set my cron job to be at a specific hour later than the actual during standard time, but I figured that this would be a good opportunity to get to know of such a possibility, if such exists.)
So, how do I make a single entry that uses GMT or UTC, in my crontab? While also using the local time for the other tasks on crontab?

to Firefox but it doesn't work for me. Evidently it does work for
Don on some other version of Linux.
I'm running Firefox 110 on Fedora 37 with KDE. I have successfully
installed the desired extension, "Multi-Account Containers", but do
not see the container icon. I can reach the container management page
via the Addons link and have added a YouTube container. And the addon
is enabled. But I can't find any way to say, ���������always open this site
in container���������.
In case it matters, I see that FF's addon page reports that this addon
requires container tabs and marks the addon as disabled. If I enable
them and then enable the addon, when I return to the addon page, it
shows the container tabs option checked but dimmed, the only option
for the addon itself is "Disable Extension".
I have also reported this to Mozilla
(<https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1823561>) but, since
this behavior seems to be unique to my situation, I'm also reporting
it here.

Command line for adding mp3 meta data

I just purchased an audio download of 36 tracks. No meta data, and my
wife's flip phone needs meta data for sorting and such.
It is one thing to use VLC to fix the meta data on a single mp3 or 2
before transfering to her phone, but 36 is just a road too far.
So is there a decent program with Fedora that will let me easily set the
meta data on these?

Fedora 37 - Cockpit Software Update Display Questions

Good morning,
There are two things that I have noticed lately when performing upgrades
using cockpit:
1) When viewing the update log in real time, the display no longer
automatically scrolls to show new entries.
2) The "Verifying" line of text above the progress indicator seems to be
missing information and instead displays "undefined" (see attached image)
Is this by design?

Lenovo E14 g2 (AMD) - Unable to suspend

Hi guys.
Sometimes - way way too often - I cannot suspend my Fedora.
Whether with power button or GUI or command line, system
would not go to sleep.
I have an external Dell p2418d always connected but whether
that monitor is connected or not, seems to make no
difference when it happens, when it won't suspend and it
does not happen always.
Sometimes, usually not long after a reboot, system does
suspend OK.
When Fedora fails to suspend - screens, both or built-in
alone if external is disconnected, go blank, but it's
obvious right away that suspend failed for power-on LED
remains full-on, as oppose to dim-in-out which is the
confirmation that system is suspended... so, only
screens/monitors went blank but a few seconds later screens
come back on with the "regular" lock screen.
This had been the problem since I can remember - certainly
with kernel 6.0.x through to 6.2.x which I'm trying now.
I think I'll file Bugzilla, but am hoping that other
Fedorians here can comment, if can/do observe similar
misbehavior.
