Couple of Thunderbird pains

In the past I would just enter "users" in the "To " space and would get
the list entry users(a)lists.fedoraproject.org. Somehow that now gets
attached to send to a person instead of the list. Have to explicitly
type in the list address. Is there a fix?
Thunderbird keeps continually telling me it wants to compact the mails
storage for what is a trivial amount of space, Is there a way to make it
use a reasonable size to do the prompt?
I set the font size to small but it always reverts to medium, where
would a permanent setting be located?

It seems that 09/09, the sendmail was working fine, but not on 09/16.
Now I get
systemctl start sendmail.service

I have in

How do I stop this malware

I stumbled onto a very bad website:

nslookup gives several IP addresses for it:
13.227.44.(3, 62, 26, 12) and
2600:9000:21fa:(ca, ce, 14, 2e, 7e, b6, c2, ee)00:1:6351:b980:21
firefox went fullscreen and kept telling me that
my computer was locked because, without my knowledge,
it had been used for bad things.
I should call the given number for help getting
rid of the malware and to get my computer unlocked.
Do not restart your computer or data loss and
release of personal information might result.
The mouse would only show up on the
always-on-top window of an expired timer.
I'd encountered similar before.
This time I switched to virtual console 3 and SIGSTOPped firefox.
When I got back to the GUI, virtual console 1, I had to log in again.
Didn't help. Computer was quieter, but still unresponsive.
I went back to virtual console 3. There was the GUI. Huh?
Ok, virtual console 5.
SIGCONT firefox and go back to the GUI.
Turn off networking before logging in.
That did it.
I took firefox out of fullscreen mode.
I got the above information and deleted
just the window I wanted rid of.
The first time I encountered this,
I wasn't as bright and just rebooted.
How is that sort of thing done and
how do I keep it from happening again?
I the meantime, how do I blacklist those addresses?

fedora 38: grainy printing with hp lj pro mfp m130fw

Hello,
after upgrading from fedora 37 to 38 the scanner still works quite well,
but it seems that my printing is somehow grainy, even for well defined
documents.
Initially I thought of a possible reason with the just replaced toner but
then trying to print the same pdf file from my Samsung S22 phone it prints
perfectly.
Both the printer and the phone use wifi connection.
After upgrading I got the usual message that the driver needed to be
reinstalled but I continually got checksum error and it didn't complete.
I then manually downloaded from here:
https://www.openprinting.org/download/printdriver/auxfiles/HP/plugins/
and gave the .run file to the wizard as input and the printer worked again,
but output is grainy.
On my fedora 38 I have hplip-3.23.5-8.fc38.x86_64 so I downloaded the
hplip-3.23.5-plugin.run file from the web site above.
Could that be the reason?
Running hp-check I see

monitoring of fed/web severs

Hi.
To all you sys admin -- real or just good!
I'm doing some thought/research prep to figure out what's required to
monitor remote (cloud) web servers, and the services running on the
instance.
Ie, what apps/services should be used
-3rd party apps running/pointed to the box
-what should be tracked/monitored?
-are there "recipes" to use to be used as a starting point?
-things "not" to do -- things "to" do..
Good/Better/Best practices...
Server security processes
User attacking the server
Traffic attacking the web Server process..
Whatever the list has to offer, I'd be interested in seeing/hearing.

F38: systemd-resolved.service oddity

Dear friends,
From the past week, I have had an issue in that after several hours, some particular sites become inaccessible to me, and can only be accessed if I use restart using sudo systemctl restart systemd-resolved.service
What particular issues cause this? Why did it start a week ago, and has become quite reliable in its annoyance? (I have to say that when I can no longer access this site, I am no longer on Cisco SecureClient VPN, which is also one of the sites which can not be accessed with Cisco SecureClient VPN without restarting systemd-resolved.service, and the site is my worksite domain).
Happy to file bug reports, and to test different things. I am on a fully updated F38.

USB device detected but can't access

I have a SanDisk Ultra Flair USB 3.0 device that doesn't appear to be
properly recognized. It doesn't appear in an "fdisk -l" output and not
automatically mounted on the filesystem as other devices are. It does
appear to be detected, however:

battery life

I have a new HP Victus laptop with Fedora 38 and Windows 11 installed.
In Windows, the battery lasts all day--8+ hours. In Linux, it lasts about
2.5-3 hours.
I installed TLP, which I remember from way back, although I don't know if
that's what people do these days. In any case, it didn't help.
What else can I do to get Fedora not to eat up the battery life so fast?
