KGpg "An error occurred while scanning your keyring"

This error pops up whenever my system boots up. Clicking on [Details <<] produces a message box with the single entry "Details" in it. What's happening? Thanks - jon

ESC/P thermal receipt printers and Linux...

Running dmesg after plugging my POS-5890K labelled usb thermal receipt printer, it identifies itself as full-speed USB device number 9 using ehci-pci idVendor=0416, idProduct=5011 Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 Product: POS58 USB Printer Manufacturer: GD32 Microelectronics SerialNumber: Printer I found the hard way that these printers are not supported by CUPS by default ... one has to go the extra length to either send esc/p codes manually via your own app http://kg4zqz.blogspot.com/2016/08/escposf-thermal-printer-filter-and.html ...or compile a driver from source, just like 20 years ago for some printers... maybe 2018 will be the year of desktop linux *sarcasm* I've tried this driver and it didn't work... http://scruss.com/blog/2015/07/12/thermal-printer-driver-for-cups-linux-and… (the driver source was fetched by git from its current github repo, so it's not out of date, it's in fact newer than the above blog post) What gives more clues is the small piece of thermal paper that came with the printer with a printout of its self-test (surely from Windows). The driver mentioned above was compiled, and installed but didn’t work. A sample print gave gibberish. A second text-only printing (by clicking the CUPS “print self-test page” read “IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOU’RE USING THE WRONG DRIVER FOR YOUR PRINTER”. A crude bug-finding code it seems… Any ideas before I head over to the CUPS maling list and pull my hair? If we can't get a USB line printer detected and configured and send ASCII to it, we're doomed. All because there's a dozen poorly documented layers of software crap obscuring it... FC

Hi guys How do we load & tweak color profiles in Fedora (without using external sensor-devices) ? My Lenovo Thinkbook built-in screen has different (and not adjustable in BIOS) color temperature what my external DELL shows - they are quite different thus annoying. many thanks, L.

[FC8] ssh and CAC card???

From what I understood, the change to openssh listed in: rpm -q --changelog openssh |less as: "* Wed Jun 20 2007 Tomas Mraz <tmraz(a)redhat.com> - 4.5p1-7 - experimental NSS keys support - correctly setup context when empty level requested (#234951) " was supposed to allow the Common Access Card (CAC) to work with the shipped Fedora 8 ssh. Apache fails to resume after hibernation

I've noticed recently that Apache often (or perhaps always) doesn't respond after a system hibernate/resume cycle. After restarting it ('apachectl restart') all is well. I could script an automatic restart after resuming, but I wondered if this is a well-known problem with a simpler solution. poc

Kernel 6.9.5-200.fc40 throws me into grub prompt on reboot

Hi, I just did a kernel update and after reboot I ended up in a grub prompt. I booted from USB F40 and followed instructions at https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/grub2-bootloader/#_restorin… However, whatever I did I was not able to successfully boot. I spent hours trying to figure it out before trying to boot to the old 6.9.4-200 kernel from the dreaded grub prompt and voila, the system happily came on. My question now is: How to restore my grub2 reliably so that I would not have to go through all these hoops again after next reboot. fedora upgrade to 6.9.5-200.fc40.x86_64: no /bin/thunderbird-wayland

With fedora 6.8.8-300.fc40.x86_64 thunderbird packaged contained /bin/thunderbird-wayland. With fedora 6.9.5-200.fc40.x86_64 the thunderbird package 115.12.1 does not contain /bin/thunderbird-wayland dnf search thunderbird ======================= Name & Summary Matched: thunder ======================== plasma-thunderbolt.x86_64 : Plasma integration for controlling Thunderbolt : devices plasma-thunderbolt.i686 : Plasma integration for controlling Thunderbolt devices thunderbird.x86_64 : Mozilla Thunderbird mail/newsgroup client thunderbird-librnp-rnp.x86_64 : OpenPGP implementation for Thunderbird based on : RNP thunderbird-wayland.x86_64 : Thunderbird Wayland launcher. .... On package page for thunderbird-wayland https://packages.fedoraproject.org/pkgs/thunderbird/thunderbird-wayland/ says stable release is 115.9.0-1.fc40 but the "Recent Activity" has some notes associated with thunderbird-115.12.1-1.fc40 Was thunderbird-wayland left out or is it no longer needed? [F40] Cannot boot live version from USB drive with UEFI BIOS

Hi, I created a USB stick with a live version of Fedora 40. I tried both the default version and the KDE Spin. I tried using dd and using mediawriter. Same result: I cannot boot on the USB drive if my BIOS is configured in UEFI as it is to boot from my hard disk on Fedora 38. It says that there is no bootable drive. Note that I need a USB stick because I want to change my hard drive. I noticed that I can still boot F30 from an old live USB drive and you can see below that the output of dmesg is not the same for both Fedora versions.
