boot stops before startx....

Bonjour, Yesterday I updated my fc40 installation. I have an nvidia GPU with nvidia driver from rpm-fusion. I think that the akmod compilation of the driver went wrong and I could not boot until the graphical login screen: the screen remains black and nothing was possible to be done, even accessing to consol via ctrl-alt-F2-to-12. So I booted in rescue mode and erased all nvidia stuff (except firmware) and modified the kernel line in grub (suppressing "blacklist nouveau") and rebooted. Now, I can boot but not to graphical mode: at the end, I have to switch to consol (Ctrl-Alt F2), login and startx. How can get a full boot upto graphical mode again? dracut + LUKS = no boot? (now fine, issues a month ago)

Hi, I had changed from Fedora to openSUSE due to an error on LUKS during boot (it would not see the correct devices, dracut would timeout). I could boot using an older kernel but couldn't figure out what the issue was/hadn't had the patience. Yesterday it happened on openSUSE and, in that case, no kernel would boot. So, again, I returned to Fedora. Do note the same thing had happened on another computer. This was approximately 1 month ago. No-one else seems to have had this issue. I've since reinstalled Fedora 40 so now my system is stable and working fine. Still, it puzzles me, so, does anyone have any hint of what may have gone wrong? Spurious internet searches suggested: buggy `blkid` update resulting in buggy `blkid` output which induced `grub-mkconfig` to output boot options missing the necessary UUID necessary for unlocking the correct partitions. But those results were from about a few months ago. Just FYI, my current, working, install was like this: I installed Fedora 39, upgraded to latest packages excluding=blkid, dracut, kernel, kernel-core-modules, kernel-core-extras, upgraded to all latest on 39, upgraded to Fedora 40 and the bug didn't happen again. Weird issue with kernel 6.10: notebook won't stay asleep

On my Thinkpad T14s Gen 4 AMD with Fedora 40, when I am using it unplugged and close the lid to sleep, it wakes back up when I plug it in to charge. This didn't happen with 6.9 and before. raid automatic resync... where is the command?

Bonjour, I installed f40 with raid1 partitions. Every sunday an automatic program resync the partitions and a lot of programs "pedal in the sauerkraut" (french idiom) because of this automatic resync... I have looked in cron.d directory, cron.weekly, and other cron program in order to disable this resync which lasts for hours as soon as you have high terabit disks. How can I disable this? (And what could the issue?) dmesg, serial port and permissions

Hi! A few questions all related: I fly FPV drones which require to use betaflight to configure them over the serial port. This has been working ok in the past and is getting more and more confusing. The timeline is far from accurate but in short: 1. Everything used to work fine a few Fedora releases ago (not so many) 2. dmesg now requires sudo 3. Serial port also requires sudo ( /dev/ttyACM0 ) for betaflight to be able to access it 4. dmesg doesn't show the serial port connection happening anymore since about after Monday 12th and therefore I can't do anything anymore. I´ve read that the serial port access problem could be due to group permissions so some guidance would help but in general I'd be happy to run both dmesg and the serial port from my user, and eventually understand why suddenly connecting the flight controller to the serial port (USB that is) doesn't seem to work anymore. Recent issue with hddtemp.

I recently noticed that `gkrellm` was not showing the temperatures for my drives (SATA SSD in my case). It turns out that the 6.10 kernel updates fixed something to spec that thus broke some stuff that was depending on a non-spec output that had been going on for some time. The kernel "regression" is shown here: https://lore.kernel.org/all/0bf3f2f0-0fc6-4ba5-a420-c0874ef82d64@heusel.eu/ The symptom for hddtemp is that it will show "drive is sleeping" unless you give the -w switch to "wake up the drive". You would need to use that each time you query it. I guess the issue shows up in hdparm also and some other stuff. So they might back this out, but the proper fix should be to the stuff that is depending on non-spec output. Personally I am running the last 6.9 kernel and watching the updates that show up to see if a new kernel reverts this or if a new version of hdparm or hddtemp will fix it. Fedora 40: Gnome: How to increase touchpad-disabling timeout

whenever I type, sometimes my hand touches touchpad and mouse goes to a random place and following digits are written in the wrong place. Slow transfer speed to USB 3.0 portable drive

I have a USB 3.0 portable drive which I've used for years with two desktops, each with black USB 2.0 ports. I used to get roughly 25 MB/s transfer speed which AIUI is roughly to be expected given that it's limited to USB 2. Lately, the transfer speed is much slower, around 2 MB/s. I thought maybe it was the new 6.10 kernel, so I tried the older 6.9.12 kernel, no difference. I also have a F40 laptop with two blue SS USB 3.0 ports and one yellow USB port, which ought to be at least as fast as the blue ports. When I plug the portable drive into either of the blue ports, I get roughly 50 MB/s, and with the yellow port I get roughly 25 MB/s. The fact that I can get up to 50 MB/s tells me that there's probably nothing physically wrong with the portable drive. Are there any known kernel issues that would mess up USB transfer speed? Unfortunately I don't remember exactly when the problem started but it was fairly recent.

Fedora 40 system with X!! and icewm. The xscreensaver defaults to a message saying that it needs xscreensaver-gl packages. dnf shows the packages to be installed. Why doesn't xscreensaver find them?

Solved temporarily... "When I look from /var/log/messages I see wpa_supplicant[787]: wlo1: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-FAILED ret=22" I downgraded wpa_supplicant and there it was, now wifi works. But now is problem, how to avoid upgrading that "bad" package? other way than someone repir it? Yes, I know, dnf update EXCLUDE=wpa_supplicant, but then Miss maybe corrected version.. Jarmo

bluetooth connection problem

Bluetooth headphones report that they are connected and paird. The Bluetooth devices app reports: Connection failed: device did not respond. Fedora 40, 6.9.9-200.fc40.x86_64 kernel, XFCE-4 desktop. Everything up-to-date. On the same box, headphones pair with no errors under Unbuto 24.04 I expect that I have a configuration problem, but I have searched in vain to discover what that might be. Assistance would be appreciated.

When got updated kernel into 6.9.12-200.fc40.x86_64 Stopped my elitebooks wifi working and weird thing is, that does not work with older kernels either. Card is Broadcom BCM 43228 802.11a/b/g/n. Strange thing is, that lsmod shows module wl, lshw shows wlo1 bcm43228, but no wireless found?? Thought, that card was somehow broken, changed similar card and it shows exact the same. So, famous question, ANY HELP? Jarmo

Simplex on Fedora

I thought I would like to give Simplex a go on my Fedora laptop so I installed it with Gnome Software from Flathub. Version 5.8.2 of Simplex. I can connect to Simplex on my phone and send text messages back and forth, but audio calls don't work at all, nor video calls. For example if I make an audio call from my phone to my laptop, Simplex pops up and ask if I want to answer the call, after pressing Accept a tab opens up in Firefox and asks if I want to allow microphone access, after accepting nothing much happens after that. There is just a black tab in Firefox with the text "starting... contact has e2e encryption" Anyone that can make audio calls with Simplex on Fedora?

Still no success... Anyone know where from ask? I know that it is kmod from rpmfusion, but surely someon maintains it...? I have rpmfusion enable and kmod-wl installed, but can't get wifi working. I tested with Linx Mint live stick, there was same situation, first no worky. But there was bcm-kernel-source, 6.30.223.271+bdcom-ubuntu 10-23.04-1, Broadcom 820.11 Linux STA wireless driver source, for BCM 43228 card. Installed that with Mints driverinstaller and wifi started to work.. Where do I find working driver for my Fedora 40. I don't want to change into Mint, or any *bubtu* systems???? Jarmo

Can't seem to open https (443/tcp)

I'm attempting to run a service on port 443 but no matter what I do, nmap reports the port is closed. Both systems are Fedora 40. On my Fedora 40 x86_64 system named (ISC BIND daemon) crashes at start. There is active abrtd, and it after systemd-coredump action create some information about crash in /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-YYYY-mm-dd-* directory. I wanted to see some details about the crash, so I installed the debug package (# dnf install bind-debuginfo). But hey - now named still crashes on start, but abrtd doesn't create anything! There are systemd-coredump entries in the log, but not abrtd, and no errors or reasons why it didn't get to abrtd: Aug 10 17:43:33 dc0 systemd-coredump[5806]: Process 5794 (named) of user 25 dumped core. Module wins_ldb.so from rpm samba-4.20.4-1.fc40.x86_64 Module vlv.so from rpm samba-4.20.4-1.fc40.x86_64 ... Aug 10 17:43:33 dc0 systemd[1]: systemd-coredump(a)6-5805-0.service: Deactivated successfully. Aug 10 17:43:33 dc0 systemd[1]: named.service: Control process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE Aug 10 17:43:33 dc0 systemd[1]: named.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. I had an idea that some limits for systemd-coredump might need to be increased or so, but i can't find anything that solves it. Please, can anyone advise? -- TIA, Franta Hanzlik

My actual problem is other: I want somehow debug program (ISC bind daemon) crashes. And I'm trying to figure out why abrt doesn't create a crashdump in /var/spool/abrt/ directory after I install the debuginfo package - although it did before... I had an idea that some limits for systemd-coredump might need to be increased. But I'm surprised and I can't explain why the configuration files of the systemd daemon are completely missing in the system - those under the /etd/systemd/ directory (system.conf, user.conf, logind.conf, journald.conf, etc.}. Under /etd/systemd/ I have only network, system and user subdirs, but no ordinal file - although in packages these should be: # rpm -ql systemd|grep -E '/etc/systemd/[^/]+\.conf$' /etc/systemd/journald.conf /etc/systemd/logind.conf /etc/systemd/system.conf /etc/systemd/user.conf and is weird, the systemd package verification will take place without errors (as if those .conf files are optional?!): # rpm -V systemd; echo "RES=$?" RES=0 The verbose verification lists them as missing, but the rpm exit status is also 0: # rpm -Vv systemd|grep -E '/etc/systemd/[^/]+\.conf$' missing c /etc/systemd/journald.conf missing c /etc/systemd/logind.conf missing c /etc/systemd/system.conf missing c /etc/systemd/user.conf Does anyone know why those systemd configuration files got lost after system installation? Signal-Desktop & nodejs-electron GPG key problem

Greetings, When updating via dnf update I get the following error messages: The GPG keys listed for the "Signal Messaging Devel Project (Fedora_40)" repository are already installed but they are not correct for this package. Check that the correct key URLs are configured for this repository..
