Hey everybody, Reading an article about a fedora kernel vulnerability regression and found this PCRE expression '(<= )\w+' I got the "one or more words" part but what is the meaning of the part inside the parens? Thanks

php-fpm refuses to start

Bonjour, I try to have apache+php running and as far as I can see on fedora help, I have to enable and start php-fpm service. To enable no problem... To start I have some troubles: > Active: failed (Result: exit-code) > Failed to start php-fpm.service - The PHP FastCGI Process Maed to start > php-fpm.service - The PHP FastCGI Process Manager For more information , I have to ask: "journalctl -xeu php-fpm.service" OK, but: <cite> php-fpm.service: Failed with result 'exit-code' Failed to start php-fpm.service - The PHP FastCGI Process Maed to start php-fpm.service - The PHP FastCGI Process Manager </cite> OK OK but what's new? What caused this fail state? Hello, Does something change since the last update of fedora 40? I have a laptop running applications from itself or/and from ssh. Now it falls to sleep after a few minutes despite that I have org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-timeout 0 org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-type 'suspend' org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-battery-timeout 900 org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-battery-type 'suspend' Screen blank is set a 5 mn. Do you have an explanaton? MATE hidden files question

Hi All, I created a qemu-kvm virtual machine from Fedora-MATE_Compiz-Live-x86_64-39-1.5.iso so I could run Lotus Approach, which I wrote my accounting software in 30 years ago, in Win 9.1. Wine 10.x does not run Approach properly. Wine is always two steps forward and three step backward. Anyway, MATE won't let me see hidden files with a lot of File Open on various software, such as Leafpad. I have to open a command shell and cd into the hidden directory to start the program. It is ANNOYING. How do I tell MATE I was to always see hidden files? Many thanks, -T

Hey All, In Fedora 42, a new image is being built for use with the Windows Subsystem for Linux (commonly referred to as WSL). This will allow users to have a simple, easy-to-setup Fedora environment for development and testing. The test day is targeted at testing the usage of the WSL image of Fedora Linux, find any bugs/regression and report them. The wiki[0] has relevant details for testers and users. thunderbird problem

I am on f40 and regularly keeping up with updates. $ uname -a Linux e7.eyal.emu.id.au 6.12.11-100.fc40.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Jan 23 22:07:15 UTC 2025 x86_64 GNU/Linux TB is 128.6.0esr (64-bit) Short story: TB stays active with high %CPU in "top". I start TB. Fetch mail (POP3). So far so good. After a few times I do "Compact Folders". The messages go though a few folders and then say it is done. However, the blue line at the bottom right stays solid blue and "top" shows about 60-70% CPU. This is with the focus and the mouse are NOT on TB. I later collect mail and that line goes wavy and stays so after mail is collected. Usually forever. I once left it overnight... The only solution is to restart TB. Not nice. How do I find what TB is actually doing? BTW: - I removed all the .msf files, which were then recreated when I did a global search. - I vacuumed the sql databases for this profile. -- Eyal at Home (fedora(a)eyal.emu.id.au)

I need PDF editor recommendations

Hi All, Fedora 41. I have tried both PDF Studio and Master PDF Editor. PDF Studio does not support RPM and has bad tech support Master PDF Editor supports RPM, has responsive tech support, although they are not real helpful at times, and has all kinds of print problems, such as not supporting duel sided printing (it is there but does not work, despite their promises to fix it) and the print preview does not match the actual print. Only Office supports RPM and does print correctly, but it is awkward to use and has ton of bugs. Libre Office supports RPM but is bug city on PDF's (Draw) You guy know of a good PDF editor that you like? Many thanks, -T

Hi All and RedHatters, Windows 10 is going to be End of Life soon. Canonical is promoting Ubuntu Pro. Does IBM have any plans for Red Hat to take advantage of this opportunity? I post this here as I see many people with @redhat.com frequenting here. Thanks, ----- Lee
