e2fsck malfunction?

I have been trying to create an SDcard to use with an Raspberry Pi. The card is created using the rpi-imager program on Fedora (41) and that program reports the creation as successful. Later, after mounting the ext4 partition on the card under Fedora and doing two or three minutes of exploration, I encounter a bad block. So I unmount the partition and use e2fsck to locate any bad blocks and mark them: e2fsck -y -c /dev/sdb2 But after that when I try to remount the partition, it seems that e2fsck has destroyed the filesystem! # mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt mount: /mnt: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb2, missing codepage or helper program, or other error. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call. Checking dmesg, I see that the mount has tried several possible filesystem types without success, including several lines like, "EXT4-fs (sdb2): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem". Explicitly adding "-t ext4" to the mount does not help. I've repeated this process, again getting success, including verification, from rpi-imager. This time I omitted the -c from the e2fsck command and was able to mount the partition after. So it appears that asking e2fsck to check for and mark bad blocks causes it to destroy the superblock(s). qemu-kvm viewer won't type

Hi All, If I do not have any activity in my virtual machine (does matter what OS) for a bit of time, say 30 minutes, the mouse works, but I can't type. Exiting the viewer and restarting it and happy camping returns. Is this just a bug or is it just some configuration? Many thanks, -T -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Serious error. VM keeps steeling my USB backup drives

Hi All, How do I tell qemu-kvm that I do not want a particular virtual machine to constantly steal my USB3 backup drives when I insert them. I have to go into the VM console and unhook them. And every time. I tried removing the USB device, but it won't let me. I wonder if I could remove it from the XML code. What is the right way to do this? dnf downgrade dependencies

I've decided I'm unhappy with one of the changes made by the most recent version of LibreOffice, 24.8, and I want to try going back to the previous version, 24.2, which is part of the FC40 repository. But I'm astounded by the result of the command below. (Without allowerasing the command won't do anything.) dnf downgrade --allowerasing --enable-repo=fedora40,updates40 \ libreoffice-24.2.2.1-3.fc40.x86_64 ... Transaction Summary: Installing: 21 packages Upgrading: 8 packages Replacing: 1169 packages Removing: 13 packages Downgrading: 1161 packages This is effectively returning to FC40, not just downgrading a single package. Of course, I didn't follow through. But somehow DNF thinks the following packages are dependent on LibreOffice: mplayer, opencv, python3-crypt-r, tesseract-libs, x264, among others! And it thinks the removal of these packages requires downgrading others, including mod-perl! I suppose I can simply download the older LibreOffice packages and then use rpm to replace them. But there could be some authentic library dependencies. Turning off current directory display in a terminal window

How might I turn off (or change) the display of the current path in a terminal window? For example I have one terminal window with: rgm@LX140e-3:~/data/htt/Projects/Critical/drafts/draft-ietf-drip-rid/dki-try2$ That is the whole line is taken up with the current directory! I would be happy if only the lowest dir level is showing, e.g.: rgm@LX140e-3:dki-try2$ Or some such. But not to make a permanent behavior change, as MOST of the time, seeing where I am is helpful. thanks

Hay all of You, Thanks for help and answering. The problem is simple . The fresh install of Fedora 41 no problem. The menu of the booatloader is the problem and I do understand this is kwown. (See mail Camina Shell) After the succesfull fresh install I get the bootmenu : First Kernel install version , so no second Kernel update,rescue mode and Windows choice possibility. So far so good. When rebooting the system no bootmenu : Just Fedora is booted no choice menu ; That is all. See below the BIOS settings on this machine. Boot mode is set to : UEFI with Legacy OPROM ; Secure boot : OFF Legacy Boot : Hard drive CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive Network UEFI Boot : Windows Boot Manager (CT1000BX500SSDI) Fedora Boot (CT1000BX500SSDI) You can understand the user can open the BIOS and made the choise Windows Boot or Fedora Boot but this a dangerous procedure and not very elegant. So the final question is : Where is GRUB ? And now , how farther ? Ger van Dijck.

Would like to replace BIOS on Lenovo X131e running Fedora - should this work?

I have a Lenovo X131e which is currently running an old BIOS from johnlewis.ie (4.0-6588-g4acd8ea-dirty, 09/04/2014). It was originally a Chromebook and I replaced the BIOS so there would be no danger of it automatically reinstalling Chrome. I see there is a Lenovo page at https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029771-bios-update-utility-boo… with what appear to be BIOS updates from 2019 for the x131e, any machine type, but labeled as for Windows. Are other people using this already with Fedora? If I installed it using the Bootable CD image, any reason why the current Fedora-only install wouldn't continue to work? Just want to make sure since it's currently working okay and I just don't like the idea of having an old nonstandard BIOS installed.
