F41 Firefox migration

I followed the process of copying my whole .mozilla hidden folder (after first renaming the one created by firefox) from my old F38 system to my new F41 system. Seems to work. Probably brought along all sorts of old cruft that might have been better lost. One problem though. On starting Firefox after installing the new .mozilla folder, I got a page opened: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/welcome/25/ Warning me that Firefox will BREAK on Mar 14, 2025 due to expiring certs. Will this be fixed automagically on a Firefox update or is there some specific file(s) to copy from that renamed .mozilla folder? thanks

Replacing nano with vim - logout needed?

I ran: dnf install vim-default-editor --allowerasing But I am still getting nano when I try to "crontab -e" Do I have to logout and back in for this change to take? Or is there an easier way?

MATE desktop not offered by Fedora 42 greeter

In my newly upgraded Fedora 42 VM, the greeter offers me only "GNOME" and "GNOME Classic" even though dnf reports: Package "mate-desktop-1.28.2-4.fc42.x86_64" is already installed. I tried reinstalling mate-desktop, but that did not help. How can I get MATE desktop to work? -- Bob Nichols "NOSPAM" is really part of my email address. Do NOT delete it.

Hi All, Well, the 11 year old server came down around the customer'w ears. The motherboard went south. Got a new server on the way. The hard drives are healthy (raid1). But can I mount one of the as a second drive to see data in the new server? Now this is embarrassing. I forgot what kind of raid1 I used. RSTe maybe? I have multiple F41 installations system-upgraded from F40, upgraded from F39, etc., and a few of F42 from F41. Now with DNF5 operational, is there any reason in F41+ for /var/cache/dnf/ to continue to exist? Fresh install Fedora 41 on Dell Inspiron 3721.

Hay All, On my Dell Inspiron 3721 I had a crash : HD drive defect. So i installed a SSD drive (1TB) and decided to convert from MBR to GPT. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 Professionel : No problem ; Runs fine. Then I did an attempt to a fresh install of Fedora 41 by a netinstall .ISO on DVD: Not succesfull. So I did a retry with the Mediawriter : Not succesfull. When running the test and install on both media I get the following messages : ipi:dmi :Base adress is zero , assuming no IPMI interface. ACPI Bios error (bug) Could not resolve symbol [ \_SB.PC10.GFX0.DD02_BCL1, AE_not_found (20240322/psargs-332). ACPI Error : Aborting method \_SB.PC10.PEG0.PEGP.DD02_BCL due to previous error (AE_not_found) (202w40322 /psparse-529). Additional message when testing the install with Netinstall .ISO on DVD : Fragment count zero , Supported iso no. When I try to install with the Mediawriter the proces is aborted , when doing with the Netinstall .ISO on DVD Fedora 41 can be installed but there is no bootloader , but in the BIOS there are two bootfiles. So I can go in the BIOS and change the boot options in boot Windows or boot Fedora. and both OSses run fine. Any help would be usefull , kind regards , Ger van Dijck.

Gnome Videos - No valid frames decoded before end of stream for AV1

Hi guys. I get that when viewing an AV1 file's properties in Gnome's Files - Gnome Video would not playback such a file. I am asking here for I wonder if this is Gnome-specific issue for... other popular media players, in Fedora, play such file just fine. Or, perhaps it's OBS issue when records into AV1 ? I've tried both FFmpeg VAAPI and QuickSync for video encoder, which result in the same issue. many thanks, L.
