graphics card needed?

Good morning, For my new workstation, I'll very probably buy 2 monitors. They'll very probably be 4K, 27-inch, 10-bit depth, HDR. Assume: * no gaming. * I want to be able to watch 4K, 120 frames per second videos. I think that's the heaviest video load I'll have. CPU is not yet determined, but it will likely be "mainstream" (not cutting edge, not near being "sunset"). How do I determine whether I need a graphics card, or is the iGPU built in to today's mainstream CPUs sufficient? *** IF *** I do need a graphics card, how do I determine which? Surely there is some simple math that yields minimum memory, number of chips, and so on.

Updating SELinux alert browser's Bugzilla API key

How do I update setroubleshoot's API key, the one it uses to create bugzilla bugs. My key has expired, and I can't figure out how to update it. The "Report Bug" option just goes through the motions, and fails because its API key expired. A very exhaustive search in setroubleshoot was unable to uncover any kind of a menu or a settings page.

Good morning, I'm overdue to buy a new home dual-boot (Fedora + 1 other t.b.d. Linux distro) workstation. I'm trying to find free, no-login-needed web sites that are a good help in comparing and choosing (not actually buying) workstation hardware (monitors, speakers, GPUs, sound cards, CPUs, memory, drives, power supplies, towers, trackballs, keyboards, optical drives, and so on). I haven't yet found any really good web sites for this. I need web sites that are: * authoritative; * complete; * correct; * current; * independent; * objective; and * relevant. ok. Now that you're done laughing.... I realize no web site can perfectly satisfy all of the above. But which come closest? It would help if they could both sort and filter. For example, I'd like to be able to sort monitors by how large of a color gamut they can display. I'd like to be able to filter both positively (show me only optical drives that can both write and read M-DISC) and negatively (do not show wi-fi only trackballs). What web sites do you recommend?

Working with secureboot

Need to get my NVIDIA DRIVERS registered. Gnome tells me they are ready and gives me a code. A window opens telling me to restart and enter the code when prompted. Selecting the button brings up a new window telling me "mokutil --import" has failed and to re-enter the code. It didn't do anything that looks like a restart. There is no place to enter a code. this is for a new installation of f42. A copy of f41 on a different drive accesses the NVIDIA drivers with no problem. How to fix?

Emergency mode - maybe OT

Folks, during the night there was a power failure. When I powered up one of my systems it booted into emergency mode. I'm not sure what to do to get it out of this. Nothing I've tried works. Both root and home are mounted. The default target is graphical.target. In the past making sure there were no other disk drives attached has usually been enough to get past maintenance mode, but not this time. Any help is appreciated. Paolo

Each of my three drives is bootable has its own EFI partition and multiple Linux installations. Each /EFI/fedora/grub.cfg file is manually maintained as it gets overwritten when I update grub, and each Linux installation has its own /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. The /EFI/fedora/grub.cfg files are all basically the same, with entries that chainload each installation's /boot/grub2/grub.cfg file along with entries to chainload each drive's /EFI/fedora/grub.cfg. -- Steve

Has gmail SMTP authentication changed recently?

Recently I have not been able to send root system mail from my Fedora 42 machine using Sendmail via gmail SMTP relay. It worked reliably since I built this machine more than a year ago. Any attempt to send mail either from cron or from CLI returns: relay=smtp.gmail.com. [142.251.185.109], dsn=4.4.1, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with smtp.gmail.com. I generated a new app password for my sendmail and appropriately changed and regenerated /etc/mail/authinfo*. No cigar. Does anyone have any idea where to look at? E-mail from Thunderbird works normally as this message proves. Thanks Frank -- <listfrank1(a)gmail.com>

Problem accessing lvm on nvme drive

During boot I get the message block nvme0n1: No UUID available providing old NGUID When I try to mount the lvm I get the message ~# mount /dev/mapper/fedora /sd1 mount: /sd1: fsconfig system call failed: /dev/mapper/fedora Can't lookup blockdev. dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call. The lvm has two physical volumes on /dev/nvme0n1p5 and /dev/nvme0n1p6 The lvm /dev/mapper/fedora has a different OSand boots and runs as expected. Another fedora f42 installation accesses the lvm with no problems. How do I get this installation of f42 to access the lvm?

Dell Latitude 7420's camera not working on new F42 install

Hi, I installed F42 from scratch on a Dell Latitude 7420 about a month ago, and only now have I noticed that the in-built camera does not appear to be working. I just get a black screen. Perhaps it is missing a driver or something else. I am still runnning 6.15.4-200 kernel, though the system is up to date. (Since I hibernate, thanks to friendly advice from here on the how, I don't always reboot into the newest kernel.) Anyway, just wondering what I should be looking at. scrolling with middle button - lost

Hi guys. I've just lost _scrolling_ with my keyboard's middle button - lost electricity twice in succession, weird cause it would be, but can't thing of anything else. Although there is nothing wrong physically with the key/button - still can paste with it, also, I have a few of these "Lenovo ThinkPad Compact Keyboard with TrackPoint" - scrolling (also zooming in/out) is no longer "available" With Gnome's tweaks, "Scrolling Method' I have had to "Default" but also now tried "On Buttong Down" - to no avail. all thoughts & suggestion much appreciated - on how to "fix" it back. many thanks, L.
