Bluetooth microphone detected but not working

I am on pretty old hardware running Fedora 41. I am delaying my upgrade as my hardware is old. I am using a Skull Candy Bluetooth headset (Smokin Buds). The speaker functionality works just fine. But even though the microphone is detected it picks up no sound. I know debugging Bluetooth is hell on Linux, but just letting you know this headphone works seamlessly on Windows, AND use to work on Fedora 40, if you can believe it. Let me know if any logs or info is required from my end. Any help would be nice. -- Regards, Sreyan Chakravarty

External mouse not working

I worked really hard getting this Lenovo x260 w F44 ready for this morning. I am at the AUVSI conference downtown Detroit and set up my notebook and plugged in my Veratim mini mouse that I used for years on earlier Lenovos and Fedora. At home I only used my KVM, so this is my first use of a "real" usb mouse. I plug the mouse in. The red LED lights up and turns off and no working mouse. I have tried this both on battery and AC. No mouse. So I am stuck using the Lenovo touchpad and "eraser head" (ignoring the crud term for this when IBM came out with it) mouse. When I get home, I will try other meese, but what might I look for in errors indicating why the mouse is not working? Thanks

Hello, I am attaching this screen shot generated by htop. Under this circumstance the system is slow. Indeed, I do not understand the swapping. It seems that the system is still swapping, while there is room in RAM if I understand. Python / MatPlotLib error - reporting wayland problem

Greetings, Post F44 upgrade, I have another challenge. I maintain a large database using PostgreSQL. Most of the updates and reporting are via Python/MatPlotLib scripts. In generating a chart of a timeseries, I am now getting the following error: Failed to create wl_display (No such file or directory) qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "wayland" in "" even though it was found. qt.qpa.theme.gnome: dbus reply error: [ "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner" ] "Could not activate remote peer 'org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop': startup job failed" qt.qpa.theme.gnome: dbus reply error: [ "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner" ] "Could not activate remote peer 'org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop': startup job failed" Despite the error message, the script executes correctly delivering an appropriate chart. Given that my google-chrome-stable problem appears to have a wayland problem, I'm wondering if the two aren't related. Many thanks for any and all advice. Max pyz(a)brama.com

F44 install died again, but caught a disk I/O error...

The install was going along well. All software install. Lots of files rsynced from the old drive to the new (via USB adapter). And then things stopped. Power cycled and got into the startup. Pressed <alt-D> to follow the steps. And there was an block I/O error around 5425280 (1TB SSD drive). This is somewhere around 85Gb installed in the main partition (I just did a default drive setup). So it looks like I get a bad drive? If I am quick I can order another one and get it Sunday to install in time for the Monday conference. ARGH!!! First time I had a bad SSD drive out of the box. HPlib icon won't go away

On Xfce: I was unable to get HPlib working with my printer on F41, but did have it with F38. I am seeing the same bad behavior I have back on F38: To wit. I Start the HP Toolbox I do things with my printer. I close the toolbox The icon on the system line stays. I click on close. I think it is closed, but icon won't go away.... Ugly.

google-chrome-stable not starting

Greetings, Following the recent F44 upgrade, google-chrome-stable isn't starting for me. When I run it from the command-line, I get the following set of errors: [14730:14730:0511/080334.819083:ERROR:ui/ozone/platform/wayland/host/wayland_connection.cc:202] Failed to connect to Wayland display: No such file or directory (2) [14730:14730:0511/080334.819132:ERROR:ui/ozone/platform/wayland/ozone_platform_wayland.cc:282] Failed to initialize Wayland platform [14730:14730:0511/080334.819158:ERROR:ui/aura/env.cc:246] The platform failed to initialize. Exiting. I came across the following webpage troubleshooting the error: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=313353 It seems that the error is tied to the use of the xfce desktop (which I use). Any expectations of a fix? Or are there other remedies for making google-chrome-stable and xfce to work together? Thank you, Max pyz(a)brama.com

Use keyboard via Thunderbolt in the boot process / enter LUKS password

Hey list, I just switched over to Fedora 44 (from Arch) and I’ve found just one problem that I can’t solve on my own: My keyboard is connected to a Thunderbolt dock (Lenovo 40AN). I’m using a ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 (Intel), and it seems I can’t adjust the Thunderbolt security level in the UEFI. The dock isn’t authorized during the boot process, when I have to enter the LUKS password, according to this page: https://www.guyrutenberg.com/2026/03/04/usb-keyboard-not-working-in-dracut-… Connecting the keyboard directly to USB is a workaround, but it would be nicer if it just worked right away.
