Thank-you, Ed. Do I need to do these once as root, or do I have to do these as each user on my workstation?
Certainly the "systemctl mask packagekit.service" is a one time as root command.
gsettings is a per/user setting. There may be a way to make it the default. But not being a GNOME user I'd have to research that. I thought using "dconf-editor" as root would do it, but no.
