You should report the bug, both on bugzilla and following http://doc.sagemath.org/html/en/developer/trac.html#reporting-bugs

A proper bug report takes a bit of work, but not nearly as

much as building sagemath from sources.

Should I try to compile the version 8.5 for my fedora 28?

Building a new version of sagemath can be a lot of work determining

and installing appropriate versions of tools and libraries. A bug report

may get you a much easier fix, and may help others who encounter

the same problem.
