Try this, then:
systemctl list-unit-files | grep mdmonitor
When I did it, I learned that unlike you, I do have mdmonitor.service active
he means most likely the kernel-thread
he seems to seach problems where no one are existing
[harry@srv-rhsoft:~]$ ps aux | grep "\[md"
root 55 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? S< Jun21 0:00 [md]
