Delete 'rghb' in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub
Or just uninstall the plymouth theme then you won't have that logo at shutdown and the plymouth theme at startup will be a simple progress bar.
I knew about the first bit, but could you please explain *how* to 'uninstall the plymouth theme'. iirc there are 8 different plymouth services in systemd.
