The other thing I find unusual is that I could not find a single
example on
the web or in a Linux book on how to do this. I could find bits and pieces but
not a single complete example. Surely this must be something people do all the
time.
I haven't connected to public wireless networks - but I've used FC1 on
multiple networks (mostly home - and then work) - without any
problems. I just have multiple ifcfg-ath0 files (for device ath0) -
and copy over the correct config (with the appropriate settings) into
/etc/sysconfig/network-scrpits.
And to start the network I use : ifup ath0
I've recently upgraded to FC3. I don't think this should be any
different in RHL9..
