The pythonscript in the link does work. I figured could make a .service file for it. (as a learning challenge)
A graphical process won't be able to run until X is up.
You need to add your process to your ~/.config/autostart directory. Make a .desktop file (with the appropriate syntax) and drop it in there. When you log in to your desktop session XFCE will kick off your process.
