Are you sure the problem is not in urw-fonts? Try downgrading to the
version you had in FC1 or FC2.

The urw-fonts from FC2 (urw-fonts-2.1-7) solved the problem.
I went looking for bug reports, but since I was looking for
ghostscript it didn't show up.
Obviously, I am lost in the weeds when it comes to the various parts
which make up the various GUI utilities and their fonts.
