Actually, it should not be there at all. I had copied it the fstab and it was actually there as a relic from when I was transitioning between 2 NAS and I sometimes forgot that a NAS was unavailable. Causing me grief.
I didn't think to check the document....not uncommon. :-)

Yes, that's what I did too. The man page for systemd.mount is unclear on this. It seems to imply you can set an idle-timeout (not the mount- timeout) in either the mount or automount units, or in the fstab (not an option in my case and the automount unit seems more logical to me).
