In my case tail is working without exporting the above line

I can do
tail +3 <somefile.txt> or +10 <somefile.txt>
goes without problem

but trying to do
sh linuxq3apoint-1.32b.x86.run
halts with previous stated problem

now I did export the _POSIX2_VERSION=199209
and
sh linuxq3apoint-1.32b.x86.run
went fine

by the way what is this POSIX_VERSION is all about? This is the first
time I have faced this.
