I didn't copy anything to usr/local - just did 'python setup.py install' as root. You'll need to go grap some coffee after that one.....
The instructions there are for FC5 and I'm on FC4 on this box. They go on to say

and following that link involves fetching subversion packages.
Do I need to remove the fedora scipy package that I already installed?
Do you think I need to follow the instructions on the 'Other distributions' page?
