EDITOR=nano crontab -e
worked just fine. Why? Who knows; It Just Worked.
However, the new item didn't run when expected. (I'd set it to run about ten minutes after the edit.) I'm not sure, at this point, if cron is actually active or not
and what says "ps aux | grep cron"?
