Thanks! That sounds like useful info. The kernel already had the mouse set to not ever suspend, but backing up to the hub, I see it set to "auto", so I disabled the hub PM and I'll see if I notice the mouse go away again.
Another thing that comes to mind, that I have seen, is a flaky USB cable. Flexing it would cause a USB reset for the device. And mice seem to get a lot of flexing due a lot of movement. {o.o}
