Are you running "Thunderbird" or "Thunderbird on Wayland"? If you don't have the second one, try installing it. "thunderbird-wayland" is the package. _______________________________________________

Excellent catch! That fixed it for me too. I upgraded from F37 to F38, and it did not require this extra package under F37.
There is probably a bug in the upgrade, as it should install the extra package to fix the problem. However, I cannot find a bugzilla for reporting this issue.
