They might, but resistance is futile, you might as well use NetworkManager now before it becomes the only option.
I setup a bridge on my system with nmcli (since the GUI interface was hopeless). I think these notes might be correct:

You'd probably need different names for things here and there, but it does seem to work. I can give virtual machines connections on the br0 bridge and they correctly get IP addrs assigned by the DHCP server on my router.
