Adding to my misery, experimenting with some variations on the above suggestion it looks like I wiped out the home directory in my main computer, I am writing this on another one,your message disappeared and I had nothing to respond to. Home appears to have been replaced with the "etc,exports" from the server, not what I wanted to do! This computer, Fedora 30 also, works and the temporary NF serer is still there so I will continue with this .
That is ... odd. The "mount" command should show you what is attached where on the client.
BTW, what were you using for backups? An issue for another thread and topic though.
