This happened once before, and I seem to recall that some kind soul told me how to recover the icon.
Unlock widgets. Right-click somewhere on the system tray, and open "system-tray settings". Configure as desired. There are extensive settings in there, I assume you'll find what you need, with a little experimenting.
Afterwards lock widgets again. ;-)
