For what it's worth, this is the (current 30 comments) bug report https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2394213
Fedora 42 dracut should already have the changes that came in dracut 107 reverted. New initramfs should be roughly 1/2 the size they are now.
I did not see that change.
What I meant was I didn't see the 1/2 change in size. The latest kernel was reinstalled, and it changed from 180 to the 156. Think the Rescue kernel changed from 281 to 279, so it was less of a change.
The NVidia firmware will skew the percentage of savings to be much less. The rescue image isn't going to change much because it's already including everything anyway.
On my other Dell Lattitude 5580 that doesn't have nvidia gpu kernels are.

Versus this Dell Lattitude 5580 that does have nvidia? 156167106 Sep 26 14:36 /boot/initramfs-6.16.8-200.fc42.x86_64.img 180180424 Sep 20 07:48 /boot/initramfs-6.16.5-200.fc42.x86_64.img 180186953 Sep 21 09:10 /boot/initramfs-6.16.7-200.fc42.x86_64.img 279490712 Sep 26 14:43 /boot/initramfs-0-rescue-5454d68084c145e496d5ce383b5147de.img
So, each is about 100M larger with the nvidia? Adding up to about 400M for the 3 regular kernels and the rescue kernel.
