But those .conf entries will have either linux16 or linuxefi and
they are not interchangeable. I expect that you can't use BLS if you
want to be able to use both boot methods unless you do some
unsupported modification. I'm assuming that the loader entries are
put in the same place in both cases.
The BLS entries use "linux" and "initrd" not the "16"
versions, on
bios firmware.
