Is there a way to run DOS programs on Linux (FC2)?

I am attempting to do something similar to this. I want to convert all my computers over to linux but do not want to give up my games. I have downloaded and installed wine and so far it seems the only application that I can get to work is notepad. explorer.exe, iexplore.exe, regedit.exe, cmd.exe and a host of other "native" windows applications will not even run.
I know it is not a windows configuration issue as I did a fresh install of winxp and copied the entire directory structure to ~/.wine/drive_c and modified the ~/.wine/config file to point to all of the correct directories and settings.
Whenever I run any application it gives me a bunch of "err:module:import_dll No implementation for..." errors and then terminates wine. Anyone have any luck with getting wine to work? Is it just a matter of getting all the correct information in the config file? Can someone provide me with a working config file for winxp? Am I crazy?
I've tried searching through the http://winehq.com site for anything but apparently I am not technically inclined enough to decipher quite a bit of the available information. I am not new to linux but have spent the last 8 years supporting windows machines in a corporate environment and have only dabbled in the glory that is linux! ha
Enough mumbling. Any help would be appreciated.
