Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

Had the same problem.
You need to completely disable selinux. There's something about it that VMware Server 1.x and 2.x both do not like. Putting selinux into permissive mode is NOT enough, btw. YOu actually need to disable it. selinux Cheers,
Thanks, In fact I have selinux disabled and added port 8222 and 8333 for this purpose too. the problem still exists
