Good Day!
I am also having the same problems. gpilotd did not die unexpectedly under FC1. However, under FC2, it is extremely unreliable. For me, it seems to always die while syncing the calendar. I have ended up with duplicated events and other inconsistencies. Frustrating!
I too have the following installed under FC2:
gnome-pilot-2.0.10-6.1 gnome-pilot-conduits-2.0.10-2.1 pilot-link-0.11.8-3.1 evolution-1.4.6-2
And yes, the memo conduit doesn't do anything. (It never has. I use memos to copy stuff from the Palm to my desktop and install-memo to copy things from my desktop to my Palm. How convenient!)
It would sure be nice if they made little memo pads (Post-It notes) in Evolution for the Palm memos. (I requested that of the Evolution folks seems like three or four years ago. I also requested a Journal. I must be the only person that used that feature in Micro$oft Outlook! And I synced the journal to Chapura's PocketJournal on my Palm also.)
I have been trying to convince people that Linux is usable for a desktop for someone other than a techie. However, problems like the gpilot problem don't help my argument. Not having the notes in Evolution doesn't help my argument either.
I have been syncing my data with kpilot and Kontact just to have a backup some place. Kontact has the notes and a journal, but it seems to be a little buggy yet and it is SLOW. It is not bad for a first time out, but the summary page needs to have more user customization options. Now if the kpilot folks could sync the Kontact journal with Chapura's PocketJournal on the Palm, I would have to start considering dumping Evolution for Kontact.

Hi, I'm trying to sync my old PalmVx with Evolution, on FC2. It worked perfectly in FC1, but now every time I try to sync, I get a pop-up alert telling me that gpilotd has died unexpectedly, and asking me if I want to inform the developers (which brings me a rather unusefull wizard to write a bugreport... which I'm calling unusefull because I get no info about the crash itself, so I don't know what's going on).
I tried with lower transfer rates, with no avail.
Here's a more detailed description of what I could find so far:
- The Backup Conduit is Ok.
- The Contacts Conduit works only in "Copy from Pilot" mode; if I try a
real "sync", it crashes in the middle of the proccess.
- The ToDo Conduit works also Ok if I just "Copy from Pilot".
- The Calendar Conduit crashes either way (both syncing and copying from
pilot)
- The Memo (new?) Conduit "seems" to work (i.e., it doesn't crash), but
no data is transfered to the PC
- I haven't used / tested any other conduit.
I'd like to know if the Palm<->Evolution syncing is known to be broken in the FC2 boundled versions of Evolution & genome-pilot.
If not, I'd really appreciate if someone can provide me with some hints as to trace down the crash, in order to try to make a more usefull report of the problem.
Thanks!

If you this type of error when gpilotd crashes : (process:6384): GLib-CRITICAL (recursed) **: file gstring.c: line 672 (g_string_erase): assertion `pos >= 0' failed aborting... it's a glib2 problem and you can a patch here : http://www.inference.phy.cam.ac.uk/mcdavey/downloads/index.html#glib2-patch
I found this in the gnome-pilot-list and it works fine for me.
