I'm sorry to hear that. I have a Canon printer/scanner that works fine, but only scans with Canon's software.
I use a Brother MFC-9840CDW multifunction at the office. Works fine with Brother's driver and XSane over the network on Fedora 22 (haven't gone to F23 yet). Last time I used my Canon lIDE, it worked fine as well under XSane, but that was a while ago.
