In general, people tend to allocate twice the memory size for swap, or in your case, 2GB. -However-, swap should not be treated as "memory" - it should be treated as "Backup memory repository that should save my server if there's a -short- server load surge". If you're frequently hitting the swap and/or the swap usage >= memory size, you should seriously consider adding more memory.
