Hi all,
There was a discussion a while back about how to change the mouse cursor on F13 back to the previous style. What wasn't explained was why the default cursor theme was even changed? It's quite a step back compared to the old one, reminding me of something from the dark days of the Linux desktop.

I don't understand. My mouse curser looks just like all mouse cursors look since forever. Just a black arrow and I did nothing but install F13. What does your cursor look like?

It's the dmz-cursor theme, I would reckon.

Just for fun, I tried running "yum remove dmz-cursor-themes" The result can be found here: http://www.afolkey2.net/~steve/YumRemoveDMZCursorThemes.txt
I guess I'll just put up with the ugly mouse pointer...
Ooops, almost forgot: on my system, the pointer does NOT become that ugly little finger-pointing hand until the pointer is hovered over a hyperlink. See this scrrenshot of the ugly little hand pointer: http://www.afolkey2.net/~steve/Fedora13-MousePointer-001.png

You can't remove it, but you can change it, to something else.

I'm curious as to why it was changed in the first place. Was there a technical / legal reason for it or did someone just decide the new ones looked better? To my eyes the bluecurve pointers look much better.

It was I believe a development decision? Open to correction

yum install bluecurve-cursor-theme
Assuming you are using GNOME:
System->Preferences->Appearance menu Customize button on the Theme tab Switch to Pointer tab Select Bluecurve (or Bluecurve-inverse if you prefer white)

This seems to set the normal point. Is there a way to set the waiting pointer? I don't like the circular one I get because it is hard to click on items in size comparable to the circle. (It isn't obvious which part of the circle is the tip of the pointer.) I currently use bluecurve with a work around for a menu scrolling bug and the echo icon set. The pointer seems to be dmz-aa.

It sets all the pointers, not just the normal pointer.

I don't think there is a configuration option to set the busy pointer independently of the other pointers - it is part of the theme. You could modify the theme.
Bluecurve cursors are in:
/usr/share/icons/Bluecurve/cursors
Find the pointer you don't like, and replace it with a different one. I just tried, it seems to work fine.

edit /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
remove dmz-aa
[Icon Theme] Inherits=Bluecurve

System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Customize -> Pointer
change "dmz-aa" to something else. I use Bluecurve-inverse.

I think what he's talking about looks like this: http://www.afolkey2.net/~steve/Fedora13-MousePointer-001.png
I would like to get rid of that myself...
