I have an Asus RT-N66U running Tomato USB Shibby which has been working without any trouble but after some ISP problems recently I have managed to screw up the time offset. It should be -400 but has become +200 which makes it difficult for me to deal with Access Restrictions and reading logs. Other than that, time and the offset is correct in this computer.
This is a major component of my Fedora system so I am asking here if anyone knows how to correct this.

In one sentence you say the offset is wrong, in the next you say it's correct. Which one is true? Does it change?
Have you gone into a time and date setting configurator, and set the timezone and time?
DHCP can be used to give a time-offset to a client, but I don't know whether any client actually makes use of the information. Though if being connected and disconnected produces different time results, that may be a pointer to follow up on. And you can put overrides in your DHCP client configuration for any DHCP server details you want to overrule, or to deal with missing parameters.
Do you have a NTP client (or similar) running?

Reread the above paragraph.
The time is wrong on the router, but correct on the system he is typing the message.

Yes I even looked at that but the computer time is correct, UT with the -0400 offset. The router has suddenly changed to UT + 0200 resulting in a six hour error effecting time and date, the date change comes at 18:00 my time. I've changed what needs to be set for the access restriction times so they happen at the right time, the logs are difficult to read since I have to keep adjusting my thought processes though ...
I can probably reset the router and configure everything from scratch but that's not something I enjoy doing. The problem occurred during rebooting, the logged usage files need to be saved and reinstalled after it starts, but that is done with a different set of files, a different menu item than the .cfg configuration files. Hard to make a mistake.
I had ISP problems and the ISP troubleshooting procedure requires a lot of rebooting, that's how I got where I am. Normally there is no need to re-install the .cfg files and unfortunately I did not have one to fall back on as a result.
I can ssh into the router and see it's files directly but I couldn't find anything that looked like a candidate for me to change anything, like the offset, and even so there is always a risk of turning the router into a paper weight. It's the latest one I have and it can run Tomato which I prefer to DD-WRT.
So I figured I would ask on the chance someone would be familiar with it, it's not critical, just annoying.

The router is the dhcp server and that works fine, I assign static addresses, there.

NTP uses the default Fedora system, goes to whatever pool they offer. I quit fooling with that several years ago, it just works.
Thanks for responding, I appreciate that,

If you can get at the files, see what the symlink /etc/localtime is pointing at. It should point at the appropriate file in /usr/share/zoneinfo, such as (for me) /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Los_Angeles.
Just a guess. I've not played with DDWRT

I've not looked at Tomato, but I find it somewhat hard to believe that its GUI/UI wouldn't expose a setting for timezone, yet if I remember having read, correctly, what you posted, I don't think you mentioned that.
The stock (fully up to date) firmware on my RT-N16 certainly has a setting for that. (something called "Asus WRT". dunno its origin but I'd guess its OpenWRT or DD-WRT derived.)

The first thing I did was look for a menu item where I could set offset but if it is there I haven't found it.
It shows the present time with +200 but I wasn't able to change it. I will have another look later though as well as going through the files as Rick suggests ...

not having an rt-n66u to play with, i am left with only reading about how tomato works with one.
in what i read, there is not a setting, time setting is done with ntp.

Tomato appears to be maintained by "Shibby" now and everything I found was in Polish which is "Greek to me." However I have had few questions, the GUI seems intuitive enough and has allowed me to configure things I needed without much difficulty, this time-offset being an exception, and now that is fixed ...

Which is the answer to my original question, there is a "Time" configuration screen under "Basic." That allowed me to change from "Germany" to "UTC -500 Eastern Time," the daylight adjustment is a check box and makes it -400.
Why didn't I find that myself? I dunno, my eyesight is my only excuse, have only one that works and it does odd things. I had normal vision until one morning about eleven years ago I awoke with this problem [RVO]. I often see misspelled words, a few letters dropped from the end, until I re-scan the line and shift my focus and get the rest of it. I did not find the item "Time" until you told me it should be there. Don't know why, embarrassing, sorry for the noise.
which was about all of what i found there.

Which was enough to solve my problem, the offset is reset and date and time are now correct in the logs!
Thanks to all who responded to my question,

gaagle has a site service that will do translations and firefox has an add-on that will link to it. even with problems of such translations not always being grammatically correct, such may work in future.

nothing to be embarrassed about. when one is challenged, one needs to learn and understand that no one is truly perfect, other than One who died many years ago.

I saw the same page as the OP in Polish and Google Translate failed miserably. It sort of reminds me of the story about IBM's first attempt at computerized translations from English to Russian and back.
They put in the English phrase "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." The Russian translation that the computer generated read "The vodka is agreeable but the meat has gone bad." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Systems Engineer, AllDigital ricks@alldigital.com - - AIM/Skype: therps2 ICQ: 226437340 Yahoo: origrps2 - - - - I don't get mad and I don't get even.
