The Thunar file manager mounts a MP3 player on /run/media/<user><UUID>. Can anyone give me a clue as to why the choice? The UUID is X52, which I assume is OK, although I've never seen one so short.

That's the standard mount point for user mounts. The <UUID> is either the file system label or the UUID if there is no label.
