I just upgraded from F22 to F23. Previously I'd been using the nVidia drivers via rpmfusion but they weren't working so I decided to move back to nouveau.
I have identical monitors one connected via DVI-D cable and the other via HDMI. In F22 with nVidia they both worked well with native 2560x1440 resolution. After switching to nouveau in F23 the max resolution is 1920x1080. 2560x1440 isn't even shown in the output of xrandr.
I switch from HDMI to DisplayPort and am getting 2560x1440 so things are OK. Just wondering if this is bug or limitation.

The nVidia drivers weren't working when F23 was released (because they didn't have X 1.18 support) but they do now, at least for me.

Well, they do work fine on my laptop running F23. Just not on my desktop. Didn't have time to investigate today. But tomorrow I'll try again to put nVidia up on this system. I want to see what happens with nouveau since, one time only so far, when I came back to my system the screen connected to DVI had burgundy red "snow" sprinkled about. The only way to get rid of it was to logout/login.

FWIW, it seems that even though all of the packages associated with the nVidia driver from rpmfusion were upgraded something didn't go quite right. I reinstalled akmod-nvidia and I'm back running the nVidia drivers.

Resolution 1920x1080 is maximum resolution @60 Hz for HDMI 1.4 port. Higher resolutions are at refresh rates 30-24. So, unless you have a new computer with HDMI 2.0, check refresh rate settings.

I suppose I wasn't clear in the original message when I wrote....

To be clearer.... In F22 running the nVidia drivers the monitor connected to HDMI was getting 2560x1440 resolution.

Unless you have HDMI 2.0 it was 2560x1440@30 not 2560x1440@60. I don't have hardware to test if Nouveau limits resolution to whose capable of @60. From your desciption it sounds like Nouveau does that.
Note that DisplayPort is capable of 2560x1440@60.

Thank you for that interesting bit of info. It could have been relevant *f things *hadn't* been working fine in F22. But, as I said, everything was fine and I was getting 2560x1440@60 on my HDMI with nVidia under F22.
In other words, this is not a hardware issue.
