It seems the latest subversion RPMS, released last night, are broken.
The i386 binary of 1.0.4-1 can't find libcom_err.so.3, which used to be packaged in krb5-libs under Red Hat Linux 9. libcom_err.so.2 is on the system as part of e2fsprogs.
Rebuilding the SRPM, I get a missing libdb-4.0.la - but FC2 is on db4-4.2. End of the build process is:
cd subversion/libsvn_subr && /bin/sh /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/subversion-1.0.4/libtool --silent --mode=link gcc -O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 -pthread -DNEON_ZLIB -DNEON_SSL -pie -rpath /usr/lib -o libsvn_subr-1.la auth.lo cmdline.lo config.lo config_auth.lo config_file.lo config_win.lo date.lo error.lo hash.lo io.lo md5.lo opt.lo path.lo pool.lo quoprint.lo sorts.lo stream.lo subst.lo svn_base64.lo svn_string.lo target.lo time.lo utf.lo utf_validate.lo validate.lo xml.lo /usr/lib/libaprutil-0.la /usr/lib/libapr-0.la grep: /usr/lib/libdb-4.0.la: No such file or directory /bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libdb-4.0.la: No such file or directory libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libdb-4.0.la' is not a valid libtool archive make: *** [subversion/libsvn_subr/libsvn_subr-1.la] Error 1 make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.36264 (%build)

Where did you get the packages from? The 1.0.4-1 packages from the download.fedora.redhat.com FC2 update don't have this problem. Do you have one of David Summers' yum repos in your up2date/yum/... config?
# rpm -qi subversion apr-util

apr-util is not installed - should it be? We're not using yum, and updates are applied by hand.
The new subversion RPMs were downloaded from ftp.mirror.ac.uk, at ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/2/i386/subversion-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm - this mirror has always been fine in the past, for RHL, FC and other stuff.
We've fallen back to 1.0.2-2.1 from the same mirror, which is fine, and the following info is from the latest package:
bash-2.05b$ rpm -K subversion-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm subversion-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm: (sha1) dsa sha1 md5 gpg OK
- the only signatures imported on these machines are Red Hat and Fedora.
