cannot import keys

when i attempt, (as root) for example,
rpm --import linux_signing_key.pub
i get:
cannot get exclusive lock on /var/lib/rpm/Packages

any ideas?

Do you have the automatic yum doodad (whose name I can't remember offhand)
running as a daemon?

Also, possibly there are stale locks.  The locks can be removed with `rm -f
/var/lib/rpm/__db*`, but it is safer to reboot, which will remove the locks
at a time when it is certainly safe.  And the advice to use lsof first is
good.

Have you got the software updater or software installer running? they will 
lock the rpm database until you close them
