Hello Fedora list,
I installed k3b on my Fedora1 using synaptic. It upgraded / installed whatever as necessary for the new package.but when I try to run k3b, I get following error message
"k3b: relocation error: /usr/lib/libk3bcore.so.2: undefined symbol: _ZNK7QString3argExii"
Is it because my kernel is not upgraded to newer kernel of Fedora2 ? I learn k3b is offered as part of Fedora 2 and Fedora1 freshrpms do not include it.

No. The linker error is Qt library related. If you installed the FC2 version of k3b on FC1, don't do that.

http://fedora.us offers it for Fedora Core 1, too.
Hi Michael,
Thank you. You rightly guessed the source as fedora2. I presumed as Synaptic/apt handle all dependencies, it would 'intelligently' handle these inner requirements of a package.
I downloaded k3b fedora1 version from http://download.fedora.us , also put it on synaptic sources.list. Now k3b is working great.
I am thinking I can upgrade FC1 in parts I want most from latest in FC2. By the example, it looks not possible. Now I have downloaded FC2 kernel source-2.4.22-1.2194. I wanted to build it part for fun, partly because my existing kernel source is somewhere a bit broken.(2.4.22-1.2115.nptl).My system is working fine. Do you think I can safely go ahead ?

Not across major OS rev levels, particularly with different kernel series and glibc.

Not recommended without rebuilding from source.
Now I have downloaded FC2 kernel source-2.4.22-1.2194.
Thats an FC1 kernel and not the latest.

Might want to try a later pre-built one for FC1, or later sources, say from
http://atrpms.net/dist/fc1/kernel/
My system is working fine. Do you think I can safely go ahead ?
Depends on what other FC2 packages you may have loaded on FC1. If you really want 2.6 kernels/packages just jump into FC2.

I have not loaded any so far from FC2. Not particularly keen, either as l I am just getting my way in Linux and presently most things are set as I want them and My love affair with fedora is just beginning, not want to upset the cart.
Not really sure 2.6 is better for me. Wanted to build just to learn the thing. But I am getting a series of 'undefined reference to xxxxx' errors at the stage of 'make'ing bzImage.
