does FC4 support the TNT2 card out of the box? i've done some searching and it seems i would have to install the nvidia drivers after installation of FC4. is this correct?

This is correct. There are no FOSS drivers for Nvidia's video cards.
There is the nv driver that comes with x.org that provides basic support for nvidia chips. -Endy

The card is supported out of the box. If you need 3D acceleration etc. you need to install the proprietary nvidia driver. The TNT2 chipset however is not supported by the latest drivers from nvidia.com. Livna.org has an older version of the driver, works fine with the latest kernels. Simply enable livna in yum [1] and do
telinit 3 yum install nvidia-glx-legacy telinit 5
