sddm missing pieces

With sddm as the display manager for a f35 system get a black screen 
with a mouse cursor but limited response to the keyboard. Can only 
switch to an alternate screen and then enter commands. Can use lightdm. 
Don't see anything wrong in sddm.conf. Is sddm tied to wayland and won't 
run in X11 ?

Nope, I use it and only run X11. I seem to recall a bug that briefly
existed before an update fixed it where if you logged out, it wouldn't
prompt you to log in again. Here are the sddm related rpms I have
installed:

sddm-0.19.0-18.fc35.x86_64
sddm-breeze-5.23.4-1.fc35.noarch

(at least the only ones with sddm in the name).
