gphoto2 problem -

About a week ago I began to have a 
problem with gphoto2 which normally just 
works.

I don't use it every day and I don't 
know exactly when it began doing this 
but there were updates from Fedora and 
Apple. The only thing I found via Google 
was mention of a lock problem and this 
does not appear to be a lock problem.

The camera is detected:

photosnew]$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model Port
----------------------------------------------------------
Apple iPhone 5 (PTP mode)      usb:003,006
[bobg@box10 photosnew]$ gphoto2 
--get-all-files

However any command to download from the 
camera yields the following error:

photosnew]$ gphoto2 --get-all-files

*** Error ***
PTP Invalid Storage ID
*** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') ***

For debugging messages, please use the 
--debug option.
Debugging messages may help finding a 
solution to your problem.
If you intend to send any error or debug 
messages to the gphoto
developer mailing list 
<gphoto-devel(a)lists.sourceforge.net&gt;, 
please run
gphoto2 as follows:

     env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug 
--debug-logfile=my-logfile.txt 
--get-all-files

Please make sure there is sufficient 
quoting around the arguments.

I will drop this problem for now. I 
suspect that the recent ios update is 
the cause of the problem. Not only 
gphoto but digikam and shotwell are 
unable to detect images on the old 
iPhone5 although they all detect that it 
is connected and identify it.

So it's not just me! I was considering a 
cable defect, poor connection, whatever ...

Yes, iPhone5 updated to ios 10.2.1 
recently, seems like last week sometime 
and the symptoms are the same. I will 
check on that discussion occasionally, 
hopefully they will come up with a 
work-around.

I have observed the problem with the 
iPhone on two different F25 boxes, while 
other cameras work normally.

morning's reboot. I'm losing interest in

Considering that any smartphone device can share files via Wi-Fi, currently broken USB
method should not be nothing critical, right.

Yes, the Apple Store provided an app., 
"Simple Transfer" for the purpose which 
offers a wifi connection via Firefox 
here, sends the the jpeg files as one 
.zip file. It works well enough but 
gphoto2 is simpler if it would work! 
Anyway that problem is worked around for 
the present time ...

Thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. I would 
like to be able to download photos 
directly again.

Presently the iPhone5 serves as a viewer 
for the Foscam C1 camera in the barn. 
There tech support has not helped, still 
need to get rtsp enabled in those 
cameras ... They are perfect for my 
application but my Linux/VLC can't view 
them without rtsp ...

as an alternative to USB cable, for file sharing?

Not sure I understand your question?

Yes, I have been able to access the 
image files wirelessly using the iPhone 
app "Files Transfer" but did nothing 
SMB? However it is more convenient to 
use the usb cable connection as in the past.

The remote Foscam C1 camera connects 
wirelessly also to the iPhone5 using a 
different app [FoscamPro] from the apple 
store. That connection is via an 
Ethernet wireless bridge, another 
RT66N,they call it "client bridge mode." 
I have used that kind of bridge around 
this place often, works like an ethernet 
cable connection and is simple to use, 
just plug in the bridge and it works!

However  I would like to see a large 
image on my desktop monitor and VLC and 
that requires rtsp working in the 
camera, enabled with Foscam's Windows 
app. I don't have a Windows computer 
available to me.

The message is a bit cryptic.....

What you need do is install libexif-devel and ibusb-devel

I have it now. The rpm installed once 
the last two dependencies were in 
stalled as Ed Greshko suggested:

"The message is a bit cryptic.....

What you need do is install libexif-devel and libusb-devel"

Gphoto2 now works with the latest iOS in the iPhone5.

I guess Angelo Moreschini can install the same rpm if I send it to him?

Yes, I've been through those documents. 
But the solution is to get rtsp enabled 
in the cameras and that seems to require 
a Windows computer. My daughter tried 
earlier today from her Mac portable and 
gave up. I don't know why but I think it 
always comes back to the required plugin 
being a Windows .exeand other systems 
wont deal with it. I've tried Safari and 
Firefox in the iPhone and the response 
is the same as from this Fedora desktop, 
"what shall we use on this file?"

I probably could set up a Windows 
computer using a spare hard drive and 
use an XP oem disk for that. But I 
really don't want to risk connecting XP 
to my LAN, and my Windows user skills 
are very poor, it would be a learning 
exercise.

I may have to ship them to a friend and 
get him to do it on his Windows system, 
that or use different cameras, anything 
withan ethernet output will work, it 
just needs to be accessible as delivered 
as were the others I'm using that did 
not require the installation of a plugin 
to be usable.

Or just continue using the iPhone which 
does work. I need more cameras but I 
guess they wont be Foscam C1's.

It seems that there are IP cameras that are not clones of each other, the ones that do not
require the plugin to access UI.
