Firefox laggy?

I recently did a reinstall of Fedora as the upgrade from 34 to 35 failed 
for me.  I ended up doing a new install of Fedora 35 while retaining my 
/home partition, all other partitions were reformatted during the install.

After the install I found that Firefox seems to be laggy when opening 
pages and when typing in forms, I can often out type the display in FF, 
I know I'm a relatively fast typist but I don't think I am that fast.

According to top, "Web Content" spikes to just over 100% when I'm typing 
in FF and "GeckoMain" also spikes to 70% or so.

Suggestions?

The usual: start Firefox with no extensions and see what happens. Also,
try closing one tab at a time to see if it makes a difference.

You might also look at the Performance tab in the Developer console
(Ctrl-Shift-I).

I had this issue, but it was months (a year?) ago, and I've forgotten
the fix. But I know there is one, because it isn't happening now.  If
I think of it, I'll post a followup.

You could try starting firefox using
/usr/bin/firefox --new-instance --ProfileManager
When the profile manager comes up, create a new profile to use so that
it has no information from your current user.

You can also try going to
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/desktop/#nightly
and downloading and unpacking the latest nightly development version.
Again, start it right from the unpack directory, using 
./firefox --new-instance --ProfileManager
with a new profile.  Is the problem gone? If it is, you could then look
through the preferences and the about:config for any differences
between the two.  If it isn't,   

In either case, does it still have the problem? If it doesn't, you could

is not a firefox configuration issue.

Not sure, but check out the too-well-hidden secret "top" built into firefox
itself: try "about:performance" in the URL bar. That can help tell you if a
particular page or extension is top blame.

If that doesn't give you enough insight, you can also use
https://profiler.firefox.com/
to dig further.

Well hidden indeed. I've actually used that in the past and had
completely forgotten about it.

If SELinux were the issue, there would be alerts.  And if that's what's 
suspected, it would be far easier just to put it into permissive mode 
first and see what happens.

in /etc/sysconfig/selinux I have "SELINUX=disabled"

looking in about:performance isn't showing me too much.  I did create a 
new profile today and I'll see how that one is.
