Had booted an older Lenovo R51 notebook with the Live ISO, and the login worked, and then went thru the clean installation on the hard disk. Install seemed to go thru just fine, but after the login screen go thru login and password, and get a black screen with Fedora graphic at bottom.
The Xorg.1.log shows this message lines that seem to be the issue.
Fatal server error: [ 617.643] (EE) no screens found(EE) [ 617.643] (EE)
Have saved the complete Xorg.1.log file, and also tried running a full yum update that included about 500+ updates. Still doesn't log in.
Also, installed xfce to see if using that instead of gnome would work, but no change.
Machine seems to work fine from the terminal session just fine?

Xorg.n.log (where n is the display number)
Are you sure your X is starting on display :1?
The default X server in Fedora will start on display :0 so the log file you should be looking at is Xorg.0.log.

Xfce & GMD, I hope you're kidding. :)
# yum install lightdm # systemctl enable lightdm --force # systemctl start lightdm
Thanks. That did get it working with both the Xfce and gnome.
Still not clear on why it worked when booting from the image file, but not from the installed hard drive?
