while i appreciate the formalization of the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), it's certainly been a while since it's been updated:
is it still used as a file/directory layout standard? how *is* it used these days? surely things have changed somewhat since 2004, although the general concepts of the FHS are still totally valid.

There have been some recent efforts to update it recently and Fedora does follow it
